Hi hackers,
One of the ways I describe a hack session to people, is as a sit-down-and-work complement to the more common stand-up-and-talk style of tech meet. This description is hampered by the fact that, in Adelaide at the moment, there aren't a whole lot of the talky meetings to complement.
One talky meeting is the Tech Talks / Tech Nest meetings that Kim Hawtin has been organising. You might have noticed that they have been bouncing around between venues recently (FabLab, Adelaide Uni).
So what am I getting at? Basically I want to gauge the community's opinion on hosting the Tech Nest talks at Hackerspace, most likely during the last Wednesday night session each month. Hacking would of course still be allowed but the first few hours would be quiet during the talks.
It could be a good opportunity to expose Hackerspace to more people, and to expose our members to the talks. Hopefully having one quiet hack session out of 8 each month wouldn't be too much of a sacrifice.
Very keen to know peoples thoughts.

If you mean having the talks somewhere like the boardroom? I'd rather promote crossover by having them in the same space. Chairs at the front for sitting and listening, and tables at the back for hacking.

Given the space it wouldn't it be possible to have the talks and not so much worry about noise?
I'm sure the tech talks would be something Jana would be interested in hearing/supporting too.

As an attendee of both, I think it's a great idea.
