Hey,

I was at Adacamp weekend before last (and I wore my hackadl tshirt -
thanks Si http://adainitiative.org/2012/01/adacamp-melbourne-recap/),
and was talking to someone from San Fransisco about their their trial
to get more women involved in open things, particularly Wikipedia
editing (you can read about it from someone else's blog here:
http://crashopensource.blogspot.com/2012/01/occupedia-women-contributing-to.html).

She said they were going to start trialling wiki women wednesdays as
an occasional thing, and it would be cool to do such a thing in
Australia. It's a handy title for Hackerspace Adelaide meetups too.

So once mad March is out of the way I'd like to explore doing this in
Adelaide, maybe in June.

If anyone on this list feels they could contribute to a real-world 101
about editing Wikipedia for people new to it, or if you know someone
else who might, or who might like to help make it happen despite not
having mad skills, please share.

Also - does anyone know any members of Wikimedia Australia based in
Adelaide?

I'm keen to be a teacher or assistant or similar for something like this. I'll ask around beyond this list to see if I can find any adelaide wikipedians.

Same as Kyle.  Used wiki for an assignment once.  So not much knowledge, but keen to build on it.

Hi Cobi,

I could probably help with this (in June, am busy enough running
"Broadband for Seniors" courses till March)

Alex Sims (Wikimedia Australia member in Adelaide, there are more than
just me...)

Thanks for this enthusiasm on the wiki women wednesdays front. I've
noted the people interested so far to follow up as things progress.

Thanks for that link to Wikipedia:Meetup/Adelaide Janet - it sounds
like they're out of the habit of having meetings but might considered
having one this coming month... Alex as a member, do you reckon it
might work to have that meetup maybe on the 22nd of February at
Hackerspace? I've put that date in my diary to attend Hackerspace,
maybe also so Pix and I can talk about the Times Up boat as well
(which will be in the Fringe opening parade on that Friday night). Or
if nothing else, I'll be able to catch up on my http://codeyear.com
homework. I'll be there after 7:30.

Hi Cobi. The word on the street is that Rianna is the person to contact. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedians_in_South_Australia

She has organised meetups in the past.

Hey Cobi (et al),

I'm not sure I'll still be in town by June but I'm planning on running
some social media/online workshops for fringe artists (and anyone else
interested) in the run up to & during the festivals. I'd be more than
happy to add a wiki session to that.

I've also been meaning to do some wikipedia entries anyway… so this
would be good!

I know the Sydney Wikimedia guy, but he left to join Creative Commons
(Liam Wyatt). No idea who the SA person is, but I can check with Liam?
There was an 'add your art to Wikipedia' day a few years ago, maybe we
need to push something like that?

Also - hackerspace adelaide tshirts? #want

Seeya next time, f.
