Hello peeps. Just a reminder that we had discussed another meeting for Wednesday to sort out roles for the space/if we needed to change our legal status. Is there still plans to do this? Did we agree on a pub trip to sort this out?

Extract from previous minutes:

Roles within the space/ legal status

We probably want 3 people to form a board.

Accountant/treasurer.

We could also do with a single point of contact who knows who is handling everything digital + has access to take over if someone handling something disappears.

Someone to coordinate management of the physical space. Making sure things are tidied up, rubbish taken out, new consumables ordered as needed etc.

Calling for volunteers now - they should raise a virtual hand on the mailing list.

Will look into actual legal structure in January - probably break out the volunteers for the different positions to actually figure out the legal stuff that has to happen.

Looking at the Wednesday after the Jan meeting.

Ok, so after discussion we've decided to re-schedule this for a week tomorrow (15th January) in a pub - probably Archies.

15th is good for me, Archies seems like a reasonable place compare to the space.

I'm not sure if we need to really hammer out what people are doing with relations to the space and instead find the 3 people that will form the board for our limited company.

Malcolm mentioned last night that the is a chance we will have to take on the full rent of the space. We currently have enough in the account (as of last night) to cover two full months of rent. Money isn't our biggest worry( im sure it will always be a worry), but instead it is getting an ltd (or whatever) together so we can manage ourselves better.

The ltd is going to be a requirement for having a space bank account and with a bank account financial management should get easier.

Has anyone made any progress looking into forming an ltd or other company?

Hi, Iain.

I've just joined the "hackerdeen" group - Looks very interesting!

I think you're right to use "Limited" instead" of "Ltd" for the company
registration.

Have you sorted out a replacement for your server yet?

I've got some machines in my garage if you're stuck.

I'm also organising the 2014 Debian-Med Sprint in Stonehaven:

https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMed/Meeting/Aberdeen2014

Please pass the link on to anyone who might be interested.

Happy New Year!

Tony.

Hi Tony,

Not sorted out a replacement for the server yet. If it was a desktop
that had gone we'd be fine, but the higher spec stuff we just never
had spares for.

We've got some replacement drives and are hoping to try to resurrect
it to at least serve some websites today. Not sure how long it will
last though.

Debian-Med looks interesting. I have really got into quantified self
recently, which is a health area I suppose. I collect pedometer data,
sleep data and (when I remember) water intake. Would the Sprint be
relevant to my interests?

I have tools for extracting this data (written in Python) from the
proprietary websites but haven't really done much with it yet beyond
the work I did here: https://github.com/irl/pybit

Hi, Iain.

Does it have to be VM-capable?

I've got a 2@dual-core Opteron 200 server with 8GiB RAM you can have.

I've got some 250 and 500GiB SATA drives if that helps?

The Sprint is about packaging upstream Bio-Medical FLOSS for Debian and
Bio-Linux: I think you should volunteer to give an informal talk about
what you are doing and see if other people are packaging related FLOSS
for Debian - If not, you can learn how to package it yourself at the
Sprint from experienced Debian developers at our late-night beer and
pizza-fuelled hacking session :-)

Looks like an ideal project for you to present in Stonehaven :-)

Let me know about the Opteron 200 server: I'm working at UoA again in
the Cruikshank Building if you want me to bring it in. It's in an ATX
tower case just now, but it's a Tyan server mother-board. I've got a
spare 2U case if you need to put it in a rack.

Is the SCSI/SATA RAID's that failed one that I gave you?

Bye,

Doesn't have to run VMs, it can just run Apache with vhosts. That
sounds perfect for that job.

I think we're good for hard drives at the moment.

It's possible I could do 15 minutes on it. I'll take a look later
today at tidying up the code and turning it into something normal
people could use.

We're looking to move the rack to house Cisco gear in the student room
for students to play about with so a tower case is actually perfect.

No, they're working fine still. It's the drives that are in our
PowerEdge server.

Thanks,
Iain.

Hi, Iain.

OK, I can bring the Opteron 200 server in tomorrow (Thu) if you want it.
Let me know where you can collect it: I usually park in the main Zoology
car park (Grey Golf reg. AF58 WZW). I can meet you there and take it
where you want, or deliver it if you tell me where.

OK, register on the meeting Wiki if you are going to attend, and add a
note about your interests in personal bio-med software. The talks will
be very informal: It's an 'unconference' meeting with a loose agenda.

That would be great. It's wanted in Butchart Center. I'll be available
from about 11am but it would have to be before 3pm as they lock
Butchart Center then.

I see no reason I can't attend, I'll get that sorted tomorrow.

Hi, Iain.

OK, the server is in my car in the Zoology car park: Give me a call on
my mobile when you want to meet up. I don't know where the 'Butchart'
Center is. Simplest if we meet at my car.
