I thought I would introduce myself. I am Robert Greathouse. I live in Cedar Rapids, but work at ACT in Iowa City.  I have been a "professional" (ie: paid) developer since 2001. However, I have been hacking code since I first wrote the following on my parent's Apple //c:

10 print chr$(7)
20 goto 10

At the first of the year, I decided I would renew my efforts to become self-employed. I have started multiple Android apps and have published one. I also started blogging at http://www.greenmoonsoftware.com. I consider myself very knowledgeable in java. However, I haven't found a language I couldn't learn. I feel I am able to accomplish most programming tasks. However, my skills in design are lacking. Advanced CSS still seems like black magic and my proficiency with MS Paint is not that great. :)

I enjoy implementing continuous integration and unit/integration testing. I also enjoy automating repetitive and error-prone task.

I am excited to meet more local developers and keep expanding my skillset. I hope we can get something going soon.

Well, I'll be next on to get this ball rolling...

I'm Dave and I'm a new member to the Hacker community.  I currently live in Coralville and work at the University as a developer.  A little about my family: I'm married to a beautiful but VERY pregnant woman who will feel much better in about 3 months, and I have a little boy who's not yet two, but has the uncanny ability to wipe snot on any clothes you are about to leave the house in.

I have not been a 'professional' developer for long.  Instead, for most of my career I've been a scientist with just enough knowledge to get myself into trouble. :)  But that has all changed now, and I am diving into the world of computer 'science' like a very large, khaki-wearing boulder.

My current hack is a very exciting project called CoderDojo (gratuitous plug with link: www.coderdojo.com)!  I've been working on it for the past month and it is really taking off!  Mark S. and I are working on ways to integrate the CoDo into the Hacker Space which would be friggin' awesome.  (I was going to use the term 'centergy' to describe the process, but then I thought of the people who invented it, (You know who you are and you're being dealt with), and decided no.)
(Oh, and I have a habit of using A LOT of side comments - blame the Ritalin. (That's a great name for a band: "And now, put your hands together for Blame the Ritalin!!!!"  (Maybe they could open up for Sloshy...?(Now I'm just seeing what I can get away with :))))

Anyway, to sum up and plug even more shamelessly: it's an awesome project and you should follow us on Twitter (@CoderDojoIACity) and join our google group (CoderDojo Iowa City).

I am really excited about the meetup next week and directions will be acquired to Wesley's house by any means necessary, fraudulent or otherwise (I went to school with Pfc. Bradley Manning).  It will be great to see real live people I only know through this magic box...

Hope this wasn't too "J. Alfred Prufrock" for anyone...

Cheers!
