I put this in the Whatsapp already, but for those not in it... I'm making good on an idea I've jokes about plenty of times: the mobile sauna will be coming along tomorrow! So bring a towel and a bathing suit or something similar if you want to hop in after we get nice and icy playing Frisbee!

Sadly, it did not, I was late and led astray by Matt's assessment on the Whatsapp thread that no one was coming, so I turned around, later to learn that everyone else (the brave few) was just late also! However, unless I get a rental this week that conflicts, I will for sure bring it this Sunday! Will update with confirmation on Saturday.

- good snow, with the faintest hint of cherry and the aroma of oak
- served with just a tiny bit of ice
- almost no wind except for rare strong blows of 30-45 seconds
- the strong blows got the attention of one's back
- Martha, Tom, Vimal, Jason, Charles, & your reporter
- three games
- the last point took a long time, defence kept getting better and
offensive energy kept diminishing

Echoing others to thank Forrest for a sampling of his portable sauna today (see https://www.heartfiresaunas.com/)!  The promised warmth was compelling enough to ensure a well-attended HAC snow game in ~20 degree weather, ending with the group shot below.

Hey all,

Thanks for a great time! unfortunately won't have the sauna back this weekend, as it'll be out on a rental, but I'll let y'all know when I can bring it again! Surprisingly good game last Sunday.

- the creek did rise
- game not aligned with the cardinal points
- 12+ people
- Anna Pavlova
- having backs to the end-zones reduces scoring
- turf did well during the game
- there were ripples in the water not from geese, but nobody went in deep enough to attract the creators of the ripples
- Elise knows

Good game with a touch of wind.

- everybody had a drop
- everybody made a bad throw
- the dive, the catch, the roll, the hat coming off, the hat caught.
- 11 people
- game to 7 to 9, over quickly
- tippy-toe scores
- the squadron of geese beating up wind that gave up, banked, and
descended to the river
- the turf did well

A strong turn-out for Mother's Day, less so for HAC Ultimate

- 3 on 3
- balanced teams
- Jim, the spectator who watched the entire game, used to play, would
like to again
- a relaxed game became even more relaxed with 3-on-3 rules
- game lasted until 12:40, one player pooped out, impressive for 3-on-3

Good games in September.

- 14 players last Sunday
- percentage of women continues to rise steadily
- turf good
- few impressive dives
- impressive plant growth along the riverside
- annual migration of players who don't over-winter has started
- individuals talk after games about routes then depart in small groups
- most survive the migration down and back and will be seen in spring next year
- the second field is in its best condition in years
- the city seems to have filled up small holes in the field nearest
the parking lot

The field was in good shape after the rain.

- more surprisingly even the part furthest from the river
- Patrice sighting
- Chelsea Ben leaps tall buildings, now to make him a regular
- no rain, very mild mist for a few minutes
- no sun, either
- 14
- disc pretty good in spite of the mist
- better catches and dives than normal
- changing the balance with a trade

- lost & found has a white frisbee and a whale's tail 'M' (already claimed)

- fine weather otherwise
- not enough for a second game, but the soccer goals were moved, just in case
- wind may prove interesting tomorrow

Good game on Sunday.

- 11:30 12 people
- eventually 21 and two fields
- ended with 18 and one field
- 7 women
- overcast the entire time
- wind interesting, but only at times

There have been games on Thanksgiving, normally earlier in the
day. Next Sunday the topic will arise. If you are interested in
playing but will not be there on Sunday, tell someone or say it with
roses (oops, post an email).

[From the desk of the Editor]
I read what our reporter reported last Sunday and was not surprised
when the Ancient and Honorable members explained their viewpoint in
one syllable words. No, the disc was not haunted. Wherever did that
idea arise? The disc was possessed. Most of the time nobody notices
anything unless they are sensitive to these things. When a person
dies playing ultimate a few spirit gets a choice, not a common
occurrence, quite rare, in fact. One can chose to remain with the
game. There was a spirit associated with the first game ever
played. Nobody died and it is not clear from where the spirit
came. That's it. No sentient discs. It is so hard to get good help
these days.

- we have an occasional player well versed in dealing with serious injury;
- if you are asked if your teeth need floating, mmm, well, don't make
the vet get out the twitch

I will probably expire on my own when the vet pulls out the tools for
a large animal vet)

The Editor: The Gazette regrets missing last week's edition and the
lateness of this one. I was informed that a letter to the Editor was
incoming. Falsely, apparently.

- 13
- 5 women, the ratio keeps increasing
- who needs traction?
- a pull that almost made the road
- vroom
- ALERT: two HAC players have rounded up their kin and fled
- wild rumors have spread: they hitched their bullocks to their
ox-wagons, mounted up, and headed for northern Canada, or they
chartered a jet, piled in with what they could carry, and departed
for the mountains of New Zealand
- they left very abruptly and we only have speculation as to the
cause. Yellowstone erupting is considered unlikely at this
time. New Madrid the same. One of those present at the game stared
fixedly at the last batch of geese to leave the field. Later, after
everybody left, the person returned. Your embedded reporter followed
that person at a great distance and after working silently through
the trees trained his long-range microphone on the person standing
where the last batch of geese took off. The person held a wing
feather in the cloth of a t-shirt. The microphone picked up "...
must tell the others. If the zombie curse can be transmitted through
the bird flue - (extreme swearing) If I tell everybody there will be
panic and we will be unable to escape in time. I need to burn this -
but then who would believe me?"
-[Editor: The reporter claims that he was so shocked by this that he
turned on the recording system, but no more was said. Mmm. A useful
excuse for not having a recording.]

- the editor has not shown up for work for the last three days. He
left a note: "pursuing story", but did not mention which story. He
had been looking in the archives at the old files concerning the
female Japanese robot assassin who infiltrated the game. He had
blown up pictures of women who recently played, examining them with a
magnifying glass.

- I think they went to the mountains in New Zealand. For the advance
warning, the government there would help them hide. If they headed
into Canada they would likely have taken a lightly laden freighter to
Duluth and would not be there yet. Oxen are sure but slow. They
would never escape the zombies.

- very icy parking lot
- chilly temperatures, not bracing
- gloves for all, with one later bare hand
- a layer or two came off as the game warmed us
- Charles, Ken, Patrice, Tom, John, Helen, Jackie (first-timer)
- a box turned into a real game
- game played on south end of field, better traction
- the sleeping geese never noticed, not a single squadron launched
- a legitimate excuse given for one absent member
- for the rest, they will have to explain when they come to the great
ultimate game in the sky

South Florida Edition: down here for spring training for a couple of months. I’ve been to a beach pickup game at Singer Island—4x4 on a smaller field, 6 stall count, two points for and end zone to end zone huck, and running in sand feels like heavy warm dry snow.
I’ve also gone to a church pickup game in Boca Raton, and last week caught a Greatest, only did that one other time 20 some years ago. Dude did a midair chicken wing and I had to lay out to keep it off the muddy turf. Crazy.
Can’t say I miss the snow but I miss the people and the game.

- safety zones, there was this ice, you see

- clothing on the ground on the ice

The Editor recently returned with a small locked chest. That night
with a bottle, two shot glasses, and the lights out he told the
following story. "I got a desperate message from the agent I sent to
New Zealand and immediately flew down. The agent, going through
severe ultimate withdrawal, rushed us to a place I will call DS. The
agent explained, 'They discovered, I don't know where, that the Disc
to Rule Them All actually exists and that there are, were, a trail of
seven clues to finding it. Head the boat over there, where that
section of trees comes down to the water. I followed them as they
found two sets of clues. They found the third and while they
photographed it with glee, I executed the Tuatha Flik.' I put out my
hand and squeezed my agent's shoulder. The agent put a hand on mine,
then, 'We have little time. They both lay on the ground, for how
long I do not know. I grabbed the clue and looked at the pattern of
diamonds. Scuffing them with my foot I ran out, not neglecting to
set off a hand-grenade at the entrance. It was loud. By now they
are free and with the photos will be hot on our trail.' Dragging the
boat ashore we hid it among the trees and I followed our agent up the
mountainside. Looking back we saw a tourist boat in the
distance. Our agent nodded. 'We must stay in the trees, they may
have a drone.' With a bend in the rocks we could no longer see the
boat and Agent 3 - (he sucked in his breath) started
running. Finding an isolated patch of scree, Agent 3 scrambled left
over the difficult mountainside. Pulling out the third clue and a
flute our agent studied the clue and started playing a discordant
melody. With a crack a section of the rock swung
inward. 'Quickly. Quickly.' Only twenty or so feet in, in the
light from the entrance, there on the floor was the fourth
clue. Beneath it lay a disc. Agent 3 grabbed the clue. I picked up
the disc, it tingled for a moment. The diamond pattern lay
there. Scuffing feet and it was gone. We ran out, our agent rolling
up the clue."

He stopped with a sigh. "They lost and headed for Australia where
they will make up things they did there. Agent 3 will show up again
on Sunday some day. They will, too. And I thought is was zombies."

I asked, "What is in the box?"

"What do you think?"

"What you found."

"Yes. Take the box. You can show the clue and disc sometime to the
others. You might do it when the others are back and at the
game. Don't worry, they are of no value to them now -- at least for
finding the next clue."

I hesitated, "What is the Tuatha Flik?"

"A throw. Hard on people between it and its goal. You pay a price
for using it. Forget about it." He laughed. "Maybe when you are
Editor you will learn a thing or two that others do not know."

Me? Editor!

I wonder if he and Agent 3 remember the diamond pattern.
