Do you remember President Clinton's inauguration?  Original airings of Seinfeld or Friends?  Barry Sanders?

Or even “Morning in America”?  The Commodore 64?

Or - even farther back - Watergate, Nixon?  Disco?

Or - even *farther* back - The Beatles arrival on The Ed Sullivan Show??? ( John? ;-)

If so, this tournament may be for you.  Sounds like a blast - food, tradition, lots of Spirit of the Game, and ocean beaches nearby.

East Hampton Grand Masters, the birthplace of it all, is happening on May 17&18 this year 2025. We sure hope to see all of you there. As usual, $20 gets you all the play you want on Saturday and Sunday: 3 games on sat and at least two on sunday, free camping at my beautiful place which includes use of giant pool, hot tub, bathrooms and dinner deliveries of all varieties, and giant complimentary pancake breakfast on sunday. After Sunday’s games, we will have a giant bonfire on the beach and put all of our heads together to come up with the name of the next division for over 70’s. The final game of Saturday will feature players of the new IMMORTAL division, and anybody over 65 will be encouraged to play. All of you youngsters will be encouraged to hoot and holler at these reckless oldsters. Remember East Hampton is the original Grand Masters tournament, so anybody over 40 is welcome. Players are of course welcome to camp, and fancier accommodations are always available, but for a free Hampton’s vacation you can’t beat it. There is always entertainment and entertainment will be provided.

Hugs To All,

Let’s make it a real party with great play, great spirit and great creativity. Families and children are always welcome.

Follow the road onto 27 East. 27 East at first is the Sunrise Highway which
is 4 Lanes. It will turn into the Montauk Highway which is 2 lanes. Do not
speed above 50 mph on 27 East. The local cops make plenty on dumb tourists.
Let's not have you be one of their victims. Take 27 East all the way to
East Hampton Village. Make a left on Newtown Lane at the main stoplight. As
you pass Waldbaums on your left you may want to stop and pick up supplies.
Left at Railroad Ave. before the tracks, left into long term parking.
Fields are in front of you.

LIRR- Long Island Railroad East Hampton stop is a 1 minute walk to fields,
which are directly in front of you as you get off train. Walk towards Long
term Parking. Fields are in front of you.

From Westchester and Western Connecticut: Take the Merrit, Hutch or 95 to
the Throgs Neck or Whitestone Bridge to the Cross Island Parkway to the LIE.

From the South (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C.):

Take 95 North to 278 over the Goethals and The Verrazano Narrows Bridge and
then either 278 (which is first the Gowanus and then the Brooklyn Queens
Expresssway (BQE) to the LIE East or (for the more scenic and pleasant
route) the Belt Parkway East to the Van Wyck North to the LIE.

From the North: Take the Cross Sound Ferry from New London,
Conn(reservations are mandatory). To Orient Point. Follow Route 25 to signs
to Shelter Island Ferry at Greenport. Once off ferry, follow 114 to other
side of Shelter Island and take ferry to Sag Harbor. Follow 114 to 27 East.
You must make reservations for the Cross Sound Ferry, but it is totally
worth it. It is one of the great New England pleasures. The trip is truly a
pleasure.

To the house for camping and party:

Take 27 East to Amagansett. Just before Mobil Station make left onto
Windmill Lane. Go to the end. Right onto Town Lane. Make left on Stony Hill

Lots of people invited to an ultimate sleep-over. Those not invited
found themselves playing a small game until the sleepers awakened.

- 14, eventually
- first bink had 8
- small field at first
- the question of the day: Is it fair, on a huck, to have to play the
disc from where it lands in the end zone?
- field expanded as drowsy people wandered in
- wind not bad, just challenging at times

Dear Gentle Readers,
The Gazette, upon prompting, decided to start a Literary
Supplement. I have admired the Gazette for years and started nudging
the powers that be recently. Nudging, properly done, works
wonders. The Editor even appointed me the Literary Supplement
Editor! I swooned, gracefully. The Supplement will come out
irregularly, not every wee; the editor will not go that far, yet.

To start with, The Butterfly Who Stamped, a short story, less
than 10 pages, by Kipling. I want to work you into this gradually.

I do accept letters, but they must be addressed to: The Literary
Supplement Editor. The Gazette has a varied history, multiple
locations, and not your typical staff. A poorly addressed letter may
end up in my hands or Antarctica.

- good catches
- many optimistic throws
- the soccer people may have given up, it will take a couple more
Sundays to tell
- something lives in the field. It got a cone and has spread its
digestive juices on it.
- Soon it will flow around it, grow a little, and await another cone,
or, preferably a foot.
- You could still put your hand in to save the cone. You are quick,
are you not? Very very quick?

The last many weeks have had good turn-out and good weather.

- often close to 20 and enough for a second field, 22.5 %
- field has a larger dry area than the healthy green area
- one game had a twenty year gap in the average ages (if only Andy
had shown up)
- various new people require frequent water breaks
- Benedict came last Sunday, he has been in Texas
- he used to wear a baseball cap, but now a 10-gallon hat
- he was covering Ken when the disc was thrown and he flung up his
hat as he was famous for
- but he has not played recently with the HAC game and missed horribly
- it did not make a difference because the hat blotted out the sun
- blotting out the sun caused Ken to lose track of the disc and it
fell to the ground
- animals were affected and the hoot of an owl was heard just before
the hat fell to the ground and the world returned to normal
- was it a foul? The Ancient and Revered Sages of HAC Ultimate
thought Ken should have picked it up from the ground while it was
still dark and when light returned claimed a great catch.
- so that is what you should do when caught in that sort of situation

The weather entertained.

- good weather overall with a period of very light rain that had
detrimental effects on gripping the disc
- 10 people showed with a lack a regulars, 10%, 0 dogs
- a skilled new player who asked what technical defense we were to use
- parking lot in the middle of construction
- parking across the street worked
- in spite of everything some people parked in the parking lot (this
reporter declines to state how they achieved this)
- late start as people trickled in, about 11:50
- 5 on 5 from start to finish
- good game, exciting play

Last Sunday your embedded reporter arrived late, only to find people
cleaning up after a ritual sacrifice. Over the years sounds from the
woods have been attributed to such doings, but in those cases the
participants had the decency to do it in the woods where others could not see.

- in the middle of the playing field, really?
- fortunately the reporter arrived when he did, they immediately
started removing the last of the evidence
- Ken, Matt, & Ryan appeared to have been deeply involved and handled
the clean-up
- whether one of them was the haruspex is doubted, such individuals
tend to move behind the scenes
- no one volunteered to tell the results of the divination, it
probably had something to do with the recent penchant for playing a
game to 7 or 9 at the end of play, significant numbers trying to
usurp 3 which will always win the long run
- if it was cleverly used to influence the teams, it worked very well
- one of the more unbalanced selection of teams in this reporters experience
- sadly this will likely contribute to more practice of extispicy
- few have heard of that term, but when one ranks areas of study,
some field has to come in last
- mathematics is very firm about this
- let it be noted that the inferior team started off thrashing their
opponent, resulting in the traditional exchange of players to stop
such foolishness

Your embedded reporter who may come earlier in the future,
fascinating things seem to be happening.

- as to whether the actions before last Sunday's game had anything to
do with the ancient artifact found in the re-paving of the parking
lot - so far no one has been talking. The Gazette will investigate.

Good weather, all things considered.

- an excessive pile of equipment blocked the entrance to Fuller
- when your reporter arrived there were five people standing around,
none had brought a disc
- none had succeeded passing the barricade
- a tall individual arrived, making six without a disc or cones among them
- since there might be no end of similar new arrivals, Ryan braved
four lanes of traffic not once but twice!
- let the games begin
- 12 people, 18.888%, no dogs (alarming that none have been seen
since the sacrifices were performed)
- Aura has not been seen either, a worrisome fact
- a red vehicle got around the barricade, just the one

- comments have been received about two of the words in the previous
issue of the Gazette
- the Gazette received the comments with thanks
- more careful examination will reveal a third word
- it was this word that caused the article to be written as it was
- the Gazette feared that the lack of mention of this word impugned
the literacy of its readership, but took solace in realizing that the
obviousness of the word led none to think it worth mentioning

Good weather.

- ~22 people, 13%
- should have had two fields
- Aura showed up but said nothing about where she had been
- since she vanished after an event involving death and getting an
indication of what should be done or a future event, she must have a
story to tell.
- will we ever get it? Will she give us one? How will we know it is true?
- the Gazette will know, of course, but we respect people's privacy, sometimes
- the weather was wonderful
- oh, what's the point. I know what you want.

Dear Gentle Readers,
When Our Glorious Editor asked me to assist the embedded reporter
with his column, I swooned to cause the birds to stop their
singing. The reporter told me the whole story, of which we used the
gentler material. I supplied a few lesser known words to aid in
expanding vocabularies. Then I got involved in other things. Now
the reporter tells me that no one found the third word. Do you find
that odd? I do, very odd. Read the subject line, again. It is as
plain as the nose on your face. At least it hit me that way when I
read it and realized what I had written. When you were young your
teacher taught you about homonyms. The word is a homonym with
aweful. Do you know any word that sounds like aweful but has a
different meaning? It has to have something to do with the topic at
hand. Close your eyes and concentrate.

Back? If the spelling of 'aweful' distracts you - if one likes to
waltz or polka with the English language, they sometimes say things
so exquisitely correct - well, you get the idea.

After all that, make your introductions to the word "offal". Now
that was not so hard, was it?

Grass and weather were good enough to go barefoot, may next Sunday be as fine

- two Sundays in a row with 20+ and two fields
- in November, unheard of
- the more interesting game had several successful dives
- birds start chirping madly
- a few minutes later a hawk floats into view
- after the birds had gone silent
- Van Atta's received a good recommendation
- reputedly they carry red lipstick and goldfish
- your reporter will check this out
