The Age of Stupid

A reminder that we are showing ‘The Age Of Stupid’ again next Saturday.

‘The Age Of Stupid’ is the new cinema documentary from the Director of ‘McLibel’ and the Producer of the Oscar-winning ‘One Day In September’. This enormously ambitious dramadocumentary- animation hybrid stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching "archive" footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance?

Civic Hall, Llandeilo, Saturday September 12th, 6.00pm

The film will be followed by a panel discussion at about 7.30 and refreshments at 8.15

£3, concessions £2, under 16s free

10:10

The makers of The Age of Stupid this week launched the 10:10 campaign.  They are asking individuals, businesses and organisations to commit to cutting their carbon emissions by 10% during 2010.

The campaign is making quite an impact - on Wednesday night Franny Armstrong, director of Age of Stupid and the 10:10 founder said: "It's amazing that within 48 hours of the campaign's launch, the leaderships of the three main political parties have committed to cut their 10%. Who said people power was dead? These politicians clearly recognise that each person in Britain must start cutting their emissions as part of a national war-effort-scale response to the climate crisis”.  Over 10,000 individuals, more than 400 businesses, and organisations including charities, schools and hospitals have so far signed up to cut their carbon footprint in 2010.

Help build momentum towards a meaningful treaty at Copenhagen by signing up at http://www.1010uk.org/.  More details are also available on the Guardian website at http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/10-10

Carbon Conversations

If you don’t know how to go about reducing your carbon footprint – help is at hand!

“Carbon Conversations” is scheduled as an evening class in Llandeilo on Wednesday evenings over the autumn term, starting September 23rd for 10 weeks, 7 – 9 pm.

The meetings will explore the following issues

    why a low carbon future?

what is a carbon footprint and how can it be reduced?

…looking in detail at:

·         energy in the home

·         travel and transport

·         food and water

·         consumption and waste

There will be lots of reliable information - creativity and games - space for feelings - no guilt trips!  These stimulating conversations are aimed at encouraging mutual support and taking practical steps at a pace each person decides for themselves.

The cost is £42 - less for concessions - plus £10 for a personal copy of the course workbook.

The facilitators are Sue Weaver and Jessica Griffin of Transition Town Llandeilo. For more information look in your Community Education Course booklet, or phone Sue on 01550 777402, or Sian Merlys on 01558 822729. Or you could email Sue at llwy...@freeola.com or Sian at sme...@sirgar.gov.uk
