I was contacted by a Klaus Boehnke who is a very esteemed scholar in cross-cultural psychology from Germany. 

He is currently working on a book on the concept of "Heimat" which means something like homeland and has some connotations that might tap into saudade in Portuguese. He is looking for someone who could contribute with a brief section on what "Heimat" comes closest to in Portuguese culture. This would be paid (please see below for more details). 

Would anyone be interested in that?

I hope you are well! I have meanwhile had 4 COVID vaccinations and have recovered from (mild spells of) COVID twice.

 

I am approaching you today with a request (in English because you may want to forward it to a ‘native’ Portuguese).

 

My team and I have signed a contract with Oxford University Press to publish our study on the measurement of Heimatverbundenheit (attachment to Heimat). In contract pre-negotiations we had to agree that we would incorporate sections in the book that look at concepts in other cultures that resemble the German emic concept of Heimat in a number of other countries around Europe.

 

Portugal is one of the countries that has been decided upon as joining the club, so-to-speak.

 

Now comes what I am asking from you. We are seeking someone from Portugal who is willing and able to write a brief academic expertise (in English) on the Portuguese concept that comes closest to the German Heimat.

 

We can offer a symbolic honorarium of 500 Euros. 

 

If you can suggest someone, I would like to contact that person directly, because buying an expertise is not that simple according to German budget law, because it always is under money laundry suspicion. I would write a brief sketch of what we expect. The chosen person then edits this a little bit and sends it to me as an offer and after an appropriate duration sends the expertise and the bill to me.

Thanks for your interest and your email!

In the meantime, I have received some more expressions of interest from academics, yet from other disciplines than psychology. Can I just confirm that your discipline is psychology? 

I sent an email to Prof. Klaus whether he has a preference regarding the discipline. I also asked him about your questions regarding length of text etc.
