It is very unlikely to be related to that error from 6 years ago; H2O
definitely supports Python 3 now.
Were you following these instructions?
https://docs.h2o.ai/h2o/latest-stable/h2o-docs/downloading.html#install-in-python
If they still don't work, post (here on StackOverflow under the "h2o"
tag), with more information (your OS, the H2O version, the Python
version, the error message, at which step of the install instructions
you get it, etc.)
