Is PostgreSQL our only option for ODBC? If there is a generic JDBC-
ODBC bridge, should not there be a generic bridge the other way
around?

There are generic ODBC-JDBC bridges. Try Googling. The working ones
cost money.

I tried googling, but I found that the terms ODBC-JDBC, and JDBD-ODBC are used interchangeably, and usually don't mean what I want. I did find one commercial vendor, but, this being an obscure company, how do I know it does not have spyware? I'd rather go with the brands people have tried and can recommend. Surely someone's had specific exeriences? (if not, i.e. if most people don't go there, then perhaps I should not be doing what I am doing in the first place).

Hi,

There is a commercial solution: Easysoft ODBC-JDBC Gateway Driver:

http://www.easysoft.com/products/data_access/odbc_jdbc_gateway

I have never tested it, but I don't think it is spyware.

I'm not aware of an open source solution.

Regards,
Thomas

Yes, but at $200/seat on top of MS Access cost, suddenly this approach
does not seem attractive. Any other options?
