Upgrading H2

Hi,

What is the current situation with regard to upgrading an embedded h2
database? I presume it is safe to replace the jar if the file format
hasn't changed? Will the change log always mention if the file format
has changed? Will a new version automatically detect if the file
format has changed? Will it refuse to start if the format has changed?
