Mess: Agenda for council meet with the warden

Mess related agenda:

1. Current status of mess infrastructures (purchasing of utensils:
Approved and further needed, ben marie i.e. hot water bath etc)

2. Contract renewal status and new contract for pest control

3. TEA PARTY, fund is needed. It will be done in coordination with
cultural council, and sports council.

4. Other works to be done (in many cases purchasing is needed):
a.Emergency light and emergency exit (for cases like fire),
b.Fire drill for mess workers and inmates,
c.Public Announcement system for emergency, in normal times soothing/
instrumental music can be run during dinner time specially on weekends
on on some special occasions,
d.Salt dispenser purchase,
e.Mirror for hand washing area in the mess,
f.Purchasing of new towels,
g.Fork for mess specially needed when there is Chinese food
h. Notice board for giving important information to our inmates (like,
pest control, shut down of mess, and many more.)

5.Major problems of the mess to be solved.

6. Discussion on some initiatives like,
a. Half plate system: (in cases where food in extra can be divided in
half and keep the price half, so that many inmates can avail the service
and they can take normal meal also otherwise in many cases quantities of
extra items during dinner are too much.
b. Reducing the food wastage: Current status of per day food wastage and
steps needed to do minimize it.
c. Separate sitting arrangement for pure vegetarian inmates (just need
to separate few tables from other ones.)
d. Dietitian to judge the nutritional value of items in menu and his/
her suggestion for improving the menu in this respect. (Institute can
provide this for all messes)
e. If time permit then "Survey on food habits of Hostel 12, 13 and 14
inmates" utilize this information as much as possible, if needed can
take help of dietitian in this regard.
