IHH Port Road Steam Chapter 2: A Review
IHH Port Road Steam Chapter 2 is a DLC pack for Train Simulator 2013 that adds new steam locomotives and scenarios to the Port Road route. The pack includes the LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0, the LMS Stanier Class 8F 2-8-0, the LMS Fowler Class 4F 0-6-0 and the LMS Ivatt Class 2MT 2-6-0. The pack also features 10 scenarios that showcase the steam operations on the Port Road in different weather and time conditions.
The pack is a follow-up to the IHH Port Road Steam Chapter 1, which was released in 2012 and included the LMS Stanier Class 4MT 2-6-4T, the LMS Fairburn Class 4MT 2-6-4T, the LMS Fowler Class 3F Jinty 0-6-0T and the LMS Fowler Class 4P Compound 4-4-0. The Port Road route itself is a recreation of the Dumfries to Stranraer line in Scotland, which was part of the Glasgow and South Western Railway and later the London Midland and Scottish Railway.

The pack is well-made and offers a variety of steam locomotives that are suitable for different types of trains and tasks. The models are detailed and realistic, with accurate sounds and physics. The scenarios are challenging and immersive, requiring the player to manage the steam pressure, water level, fire and coal consumption of the locomotives. The route is scenic and historic, with many landmarks and features along the way.
The pack is recommended for fans of steam trains and British railways, as well as anyone who enjoys driving realistic and complex locomotives. The pack is available for purchase on Steam or from the IHH website.
To install the pack, you need to have Train Simulator 2013 and the Port Road route installed on your computer. You can buy the pack from Steam or from the IHH website and download it to your computer. Once downloaded, you need to run the installer and follow the instructions. The pack will be added to your Train Simulator 2013 library and you can access it from the game menu.
Driving steam locomotives is different from driving diesel or electric locomotives, as you need to control the fire, water and steam of the engine. You need to keep an eye on the pressure gauge, the water gauge and the firebox indicator. You also need to use the regulator, the reverser and the brakes to adjust the speed and direction of the locomotive. You can use the F4 HUD to see the controls and indicators of the locomotive, or you can use the keyboard shortcuts or the mouse to interact with them.
Some tips for driving steam locomotives are:
Use the blower to increase the draft in the firebox and prevent back pressure when coasting or stopping.
Use the injector to fill up the boiler with water when the water level is low. You can use either the live steam injector or the exhaust steam injector, depending on the pressure and temperature of the boiler.
Use the dampers to control the air flow in the firebox and regulate the intensity of the fire. You can open or close the dampers depending on how much coal you have in the firebox and how much steam you need.
Use the whistle to signal your presence and intentions to other trains and people along the route. You can also use the bell or the horn if your locomotive has them.
Train Simulator 2013 has many DLC packs that add new routes, locomotives and scenarios to the game. Some of them are:
The London to Brighton Route Add-On, which features one of Britain's busiest commuter lines and iconic landmarks such as London Bridge, Brighton Pier and Gatwick Airport.
The West Coast Main Line North Route Add-On, which features Britain's longest electrified railway line and famous stations such as Glasgow Central, Carlisle and Preston.
The East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough Route Add-On, which features Britain's fastest railway line and historic locations such as King's Cross, Stevenage and Peterborough.
The Isle of Wight Route Add-On, which features Britain's smallest public railway line and scenic views of the English Channel and countryside.
The Sherman Hill Route Add-On, which features one of America's most challenging freight routes and stunning landscapes of Wyoming.
