Meanwhile, the top story on VeloNews.com had very little to do with
racing. Our old friend Patrick Brady has spent much of the past two
weeks covering the trial of Los Angeles physician Christopher
Thompson, who had been charged with assaulting two cyclists with his
car last year. By now, most of us have heard the details of the July
4, 2008, incident and reached our own conclusions. Well, the jury
apparently reached the same conclusion and found Thompson guilty of
assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving causing bodily injury,
battery and mayhem. Thompson will be back in court for sentencing next
month. Meanwhile, since the court found him to be a likely flight
risk, he'll be spending the intervening time in county jail.
