Inside a haunted and creepy mansion, Tom chases Jerry while breaking things in the process. Meanwhile in the basement, Tom's owner (a wizard named Chip) attempts to make a potion using his magic ring, but uses the wrong kind of milk for the concoction. Chip throws Tom into the basement and orders him to guard the ring while he travels to Calcutta to get the correct milk. If Tom does a good job, he'll be rewarded with a juicy salmon. But if not, he will be thrown out on the street. Unknown to Tom, Jerry finds the ring while climbing the table and puts it on his head, wearing it like a crown. Jerry runs out of the mansion and Tom follows, attempting to find him so he can get the ring back.
Jerry tries to get the ring removed by going to a jewelry store. However, the owner has left for lunch and Tom sneaks in and disguises himself as the owner and helps Jerry get the ring off, but to no avail. Afterwards, Jerry goes into a house and runs into Butch and Droopy (who is a psychic). Butch attempts to get the ring of Jerry's head, but also fails. Tom comes in and Jerry runs out with Butch chasing after him as well. They end up in an alley where an alley cat is taking a nap. He wakes up and tries to eat Jerry, but Tom rescues him by using the magic powers of the ring. Butch arrives and finally gets the ring off Jerry's head. Tom and the alley cat then chase Butch and the ring gets stuck back on Jerry again. When Tom is running away from Butch and the alley cat, he slips on a banana peel and ends up unconscious outside a pet store.
A kind old lady comes out and takes them both inside the store which is filled with animals from all over the world. She puts them in two cages, however Tom is paired with Spike and his son Tyke, while Jerry is left with two mice named Freddie and Joey, who bully a young nappy-wearing mouse named Nibbles. Jerry uses the ring to stop the mouse bullies from hurting Nibbles, by turning them into chunks of cheese. When the cheese mice escape the cage, Jerry uses the ring to make Nibbles grow into a giant mouse who breaks free and chases the cheese mice from the store. A boy comes and buys Jerry, but the ring produces magic, melting Tom and allowing him to escape his cage. Tom sneaks outside and snatches Jerry from the boy's hand, whose Mother tells a police officer. The alley cat and Butch, together with Spike and Tyke, also chase Tom, who escapes with Jerry by riding a bus driven by Droopy. Eventually the duo end up cornered in a garbage dump, where Jerry uses the magic ring to freeze the dogs, alley cat and police cars. Now safe, Tom and Jerry head back to the mansion where Tom once again tries to get the ring off. Jerry hides in a kitchen cupboard and uses the furniture ring remover to get the ring off before throwing it down into the basement. Tom retrieves the ring, but to his horror it gets stuck on his finger.
Hearing Chip returning home, Tom tries to get the ring off. Thinking that Tom stole his ring, Chip angrily kicks him out of the mansion, causing the ring to fall off Tom's finger. This unfreezes the various cats, dogs and the police from earlier, who all chase Tom into the sunset.
Carrie R. Wheadon of Common Sense Media gave a negative review saying "There's very little magic here at all and very little story that makes sense or fits together."[2] Christopher Simons of DVD Talk was slightly more positive stating "I'd say pick it up, but only for the younger ones."[3]
Tom and Jerry M2: The Magic Ring is a 2002 direct-to-video film starring Tom and Jerry. This was the first direct-for-video attempt to recapture the style of Hanna and Barbera's original Tom and Jerry theatricals. Also, it was the final project and the last Tom and Jerry production to be produced by both William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, as Hanna died on March 22, 2001, a few days after the film's release. This is also the first Tom and Jerry production produced by Warner Bros. Animation.
The story starts out in a creepy-looking mansion, where the cat named Tom, as usual, chases the mouse named Jerry. Meanwhile, in the basement, a wizard named "Chip" is making a magical potion, using these ingredients: warts from a bullfrog, one stick of butter, and milk from a cow that lives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. With a count of three, he uses his magic ring to make his potion, until it is realized that it doesn't work. Chip checks the milk carton that he used on the potion, but there is no substitution for the milk of the cow. He then drops the milk carton on the bullfrog in frustration.
Later, Tom ends up in the basement, and Chip orders him to guard his magic ring than chasing Jerry while he goes to Kolkata to milk a cow. If Tom does a good job, he'll be rewarded with a big juicy salmon, but if not, he shall be kicked out of the house. Chip leaves for Calcutta by using his motorcycle, and Tom guards the ring. Behind Tom's back, Jerry climbs up on the table, where Chip left his magic ring. Jerry wears the ring on his head as if it were a crown, which makes him look royal.
Tom spots Jerry, and orders him to give back the ring. Soon, Jerry runs out of the house, and Tom frantically attempts to find him. After losing Tom, Jerry tries to pull the ring off his head, but it is stuck, to his horror. He attempts to get it removed by going to the store of a jeweler, who is heading for lunch. The store is closed, but right when the jeweler leaves out of his building, Tom steals his key and goes inside. Tom disguises as him to get the ring off of Jerry. He uses several methods, including slicing the ring off with a buzz-saw who now has a face who begins to chase Tom, which all fail, then Tom's fake mustache falls off, revealing his true identity. Tom chases our mouse throughout the store, and soon, the real jeweler returns. Tom and Jerry exit the store.
Jerry runs off into a fortune-teller home, where an Irish dog and Droopy from the Tex Avery cartoons are residing. The Irish dog welcomes Jerry into the store but after seeing ring, and including the fact that Jerry wants it removed, the Irish dog falls in love with it and attempts to pull it off. Tom comes in, and Jerry runs out, with the Irish dog chasing after him as well. Soon, they end up in an alley, where Butch happens to be taking a nap. He wakes up and sees Jerry and tries to grab him for his dinner. Tom successfully grabs Jerry in time, and by pressing the ring on his head, makes random objects fall on a horrified Butch. Accidentally, Jerry's ring increases the size of a banana peel, which Tom trips on, and the ring in Jerry's head was removed and it gets back after being rolled over and gets knocked unconscious by the door of a pet store.

Jerry is put in a cage with his ward, a cute young mouse named Nibbles, as well as two mouse thugs named Freddie (formerly Muscles), and his dumber partner named Joey. Unfortunately, Tom is thrown in a cage with Spike and his son Tyke and they attack him. The mice harass both Nibbles and Jerry and chases Jerry in cars. He turns Freddie and Joey into cheese, but Jerry then zaps Nibbles to turn him giant. This leads to a chase between Nibbles and the cheese mice, who all run out the door. A young boy comes and buys Jerry. The boy plays with Jerry until the ring produces magic, melting Tom and escaping the cage, he sneaks outside and snatches Jerry from the boy's hands. The child cries and his mother sends policemen after the cat.
Tom politely asks Jerry to remove the ring, but he still can't. Tom takes out a flamethrower to get the ring off, somehow, but Jerry runs around the house in fear. The mouse finds a ring-removal liquid (actually to be used to remove rings made by drinking mugs from tables), which gets it off. Tom finds Jerry and demands the ring, which Jerry launches into the tunnel leading to the basement's waste-basket with a spatula. Tom frantically jumps in as well, but gets the ring stuck to his finger. Tom hears his master coming and tries to get the ring off, but to no avail. Believing that Tom attempted to steal his ring, Chip angrily zaps him with his magic powers as he runs out of the house, where the ring falls off Tom's finger, and to his horror, it unfreezes all who chase him: the alley cat, the Irish dog, Spike, Tyke, the police, Nibbles, Freddy, and Joey. Then, after Chip becomes Jerry's owner, he gives him the salmon, and he turns it into a cheese by the ring's power.
Released in 2002 (but made in 2001),Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring is the first entry in the Tom and Jerry Direct-to-Video Film Series. Tom and Jerry return to their usual chase antics while living in the house of a magician named Chip. Tom is placed in charge of making sure the titular magic ring is protected. Naturally it ends up stuck to Jerry's head and the chase begins again.

- And Call Him "George": A boy who temporarily adopts Jerry acts like this, holding him tight and giving him multiple kisses when he first gets him.
- Blowing a Raspberry: The titular Jerry once blew a strawberry at Tom.
- The Bus Came Back: Droopy, Butch (Droopy's Butch), and Nibbles are among the other characters who made their first appearences in a while within this feature.
- Cats Are Mean: All the cats in this movie are antagonistic.
- Chased Off into the Sunset: The ending has Tom being chased by several characters. It also has Freddie and Joey getting chased around by a giant Tuffy.
- Clingy Macguffin: The titular ring gets stuck to Jerry's head. He spends a portion of the movie looking for a way to remove it.
- Contagious Laughter: An invoked example. Jerry once feigned being Helpless with Laughter to make Tom start laughing uncontrollably himself.
- The Dog Bites Back: As payback for bullying him with scary cat pictures and possibly other forms of assault in that cage, Tuffy after being given a growth ray by Jerry chases Joey and Freddie who have been turned into cheese.
- Enemy Mine: As is tradition, Tom and Jerry have to work together to escape greater dangers.
- "Eureka!" Moment: What does Jerry finally use to remove that ring? A bottle of ring remover. As in a cleaner that's used to remove rings/circles in a sink.
- The Faceless: We never see Tom's owner's face.
- Helpless with Laughter: Invoked by Jerry, as he once pretended to laugh uncontrollably to make Tom do just that. He did this to escape from Tom (who had caught him) before he could regain control of himself.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Pyschic Droopy makes the prediction Jerry will become a champion sumo wrestler, Jerry's only reaction is to look directly at the camera in confusion.
- New Powers as the Plot Demands: The magic ring can do basically anything because... well... it's magic.
- No Name Given: Tom's owner in this film the magician is not named on screen but his name is Chip.
- One-Steve Limit: Averted. This movie contains both the Spike from the classic Tom and Jerry cartoons and the Spike from the Droopy cartoons.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Tom dresses up as a jeweler to make an attempt at removing the ring from Jerry's head. Despite only wearing a hat and coat with his tail acting as a mustache, Jerry falls for it... at least until Tom moves his tail away from his face.
- Rapid-Fire "No!": Jerry's response to several...less than desirable methods of getting the ring off his head.
- Reused Character Design: Freddie's appearance is recycled from Jerry's cousin, Muscles.
- Scooby-Dooby Doors: A variant chase happens in a crowded intersection with Tom being chased by various enemies and the police.
- Shout-Out: The scene where Butch runs away from objects getting dropped on him is a reference to Bad Luck Blackie, where a bulldog gets the same fate.
- Squashed Flat: The titular Jerry once got ran over by a ball-thingy and Tyke later gets squashed himself. Both instances, however, are Played for Laughs.
