Iget a Mans cut all the time, out of like 14 cuts I have on a ship I have had 1 that I was just a little unhappy with and it was not that bad just a little longer on top and did not ever have a chance to go back to get it fixed. I always try to get a cut on the ship!
The other negative was my spa hair salon experience. I pre-bought (with spa sale) a wash and style in the salon for formal night. It was like $42. I was not feeling great on that first seaday (little seasick and little hung over) so I went to the salon and asked if I could cancel. I was told it would not be refunded. So I asked if I could move it to the last night (when we had steakhouse resies) and was told I'd pay twice as I'd lose the money for cancelling that day. So I went ahead and got my hair done. She suggested I put it up and not get it washed as the curls and updo stays better with dirty hair. So she curls and throws it up in like 15 minutes (really 25 because she had to stop midway through to go deal with something in the computer for like 10 mins). It's cute but nothing spectacular. So then she hands me receipt to sign and it has a total on it but I don't have my reading glasses to really read it. But I say why am I being charged when I prepaid. She said 'oh, you'e not...don't worry...it's nothing'. I then see a line and ask if I can add a tip and she says 'of course'. I put $8 in the tip line and the total line. I see, later, on the TV that she refunded the $43 and charged me $56 (I suppose for updo instead of style...but I didn't get a wash so I figured the price would be same and she never told me otherwise)...and, here's the big kicker, there was already an $8 auto tip so she got $16....for $72 total. And she tried to get me to sign up to come the next night for treatments to my hair. Ha...nope. And never doing the salon on a cruise again.
I've only used the salon once & don't see myself ever doing it again. It was for a cut & color and she did a great job. However, I just kept thinking that while I was spending 2 hours in the salon, I was missing out on ship activities & lounging by the pool. I can have my hair done at home. It was in either 2003 or 2004 & I spent $135 for color with highlights, cut & style. No clue what that runs these days.
For some reason all the Keratin treatments I get on the ship (at least 5) have lasted a lot longer than Keratin at home. All but once I was totally satisfied with my haircut. I've never had color done.
A special shout out to Shiva who is still on the Magic, best scalp massage ever, his trim after the keratin was perfect and the styling was great. I went back and had another wash and style and it was just as good.
I put trust into my handy guide of the best curly hair salons in NYC and chose Miss Rizos Salon. A salon owned and operated by someone in the BIPOC community felt familiar. I grew up getting my hair done by Latinx women, so it was refreshing to see a place run by people who look just like me.
The salon specializes in washing, cutting and shaping curls. They also do protective styles like box braids, flat twists and crowns. (And FYI, if you feel overwhelmed, they provide details for each service on their site or you can peruse their socials to get a better idea.) I decided to do a regular wash and styling, a deep conditioning treatment and a shape cut.
After the wash and deep conditioner, I was onto the big change of the day: the shape cut. Trims are one thing but a shape cut is a whole different ball game. It provides the volume and shape my curls were missing. When I sat down and met my stylist, Christina, I knew I was in good hands. She took special care to detangle my hair even more and worked her magic in creating the shape that I always admired on other curly gals.
Finally, my hair was ready to be dried. She used both a diffuser and the dryer nozzle to dry my hair. After a good 45 minutes or so, we were done. But not before my curls were given the finger-coiling treatment, a good shake and a dramatic hair flip.
Soon, the people who were made slaves, starting putting lard on their scalp to prevent the bugs from eating at their scalp. Eventually, the lard that was currently being used by black people, was substituted for grease to be used on their scalp. As time went on, Madame CJ Walker, who invented the pressing comb, also endorsed the use of grease which was used as an agent to help straighten black hair.
The owner informed us that many practices that were done in those early colonized times were not healthy for us then and certainly not healthy for us now. Grease has ingredients such as petrolatum and mineral oil. These ingredients have a devasting effect on the scalp more so than the hair. Grease clogs pores in your scalp and does not allow your scalp to breathe as a result.
This conversation was a nice segue to introducing her fiance, Fonz. Fonz is a beautician as well as a barber. He has worked in cosmetology field for the last 30 years, and he also emphasized the importance of washing your hair. Fonz stated that every client that gets in his chair will get their hair washed before any cutting takes place. Good hygiene and sanitation of hair tools like clippers are a number one factor in how he services his clients.
Latrece has been doing hair since she was fourteen years old. At her launch, she spoke about the difficulty her mother had in doing her hair. It was so bad that eventually her hair became extremely damaged, as a result, she lost hair. She decided in her youth that she was gonna learn how to do her hair.
She first became infatuated with quick weaves. She learned pretty quickly how to put a quick weave in her hair. This sparked her passion to help others who may have experienced issues with their hair. As an adult, she later acquired her first business Prenasis Hair Gallery. This hair salon is located in Browndeer Wisconsin. Prenasis Hair Gallery is a full fledge hair salon designed for customers who relax their hair and those who wear their hair in a natural-textured state located in Browndeer.
I arrived at the salon a few minutes early. In my mind, I wanted to give myself enough time to secure a parking spot. Shortly after arriving, I was greeted by the owner, Latrece. She introduced herself and offered me a blue lemonade or rice milk. I opted for the blue lemonade. It was very sweet!
As she was coiling my hair she instructed a couple of her stylists in training on how to do the coils. My hair was complete in no time. Latrece was very open about having an open dialogue with your stylist. Since I have been my own stylist for the last 5 years, I would share with her some of the products that work well with my hair going forward. I like the As I Am product line, but I have found other products that work better for me.
Would I recommend this place? Most definitely! Latrece is a woman who understands what wellness looks like. She is very knowledgeable in the field of cosmetology and has truly designed herself as a servant to the health and wealth of our people. I will definitely be coming back!

Thank you for allowing the other girls to learn/practice on your head. It was definitely a pleasure! Please send me your suggested product list. I look forward to doing more business with you in the near future! Thank you!
My quest led me to rediscover the Amazon Salon, which opened in 2021 in Spitalfields Market. I remember the discourse online when it first opened, with many people speculating on whether it was just a gimmick. So, I decided to find out for myself.
I was surprised at how informative the website was at first glance, detailing services from styling, braids and locs to chemical treatments. For my first visit, I decided to book in for a blow-dry, which includes a wash for a total of 33. My stylist, Korell Williams, has a wealth of knowledge on all hair types, especially afro hair types and textures. He applied some great hydrating products from Krastase before blow-drying. A blow-dry can do wonders for afro hair, but smoothing down those unruly edges often requires a straightening comb, so, you can imagine my delight when Korell set his up and got to work.
Throughout my appointment, Korell did a great job of explaining every step of the process, and even the most basic questions on my end were answered with such care. After a wonderful experience, I ended up going back again for the same service and for a fusio-dose treatment, which is a Krastase in-salon hair treatment that combines boosters and intensive concentrates to create the ultimate tailor-made treatment for your hair. My treatment was all about tackling dryness and dullness and adding a noticeable shine, which was certainly accomplished.
I think it would be great if the website could detail further information about the braiding services offered, including the type of hair needed, for customers looking to have braided extensions, and a rough idea of the timings for each service.
The perfect service testimonial explains what you do. In addition, it also shows the advantages your customers received and how you handled any objections or reservations they have. For example, an excellent example of a good service testimonial template would be:
We recommend something between 30-50 words in total. It should be more than enough to cover all the critical aspects of the customer experience. This would be ideal for customer reviews for a salon, restaurant, or even a hotel.
