Hi,

We're thinking of beginning our planning for GWT3's release (reported removal of the Widget ecosystem)... yes, yes, along way off no doubt but we have ~2M LoC that currently use Widget quite a lot.

We currently use GWT2.8, GwtBootstrap3 v0.9.3 and Errai v4.0. A lot of our legacy code-base relies on Widgets (although we are moving to Errai-ui and DOM elements for new development).

We're however finding we're having to reinvent the wheel for many common controls' integration into GWT (dropdowns, buttons,  for example).

What are the plans for GwtBootstrap and the (probably) removal of Widget from GWT?

Does anybody have any advice?

With kind regards,

Mike

I feel like it may be premature to try and plan for GWT3 but I am a big proponent of reducing the usage of widgets in your code.  I have seen a lot of widgets used when they are not needed.  I generally start my UiBinder file with a gwt html panel put as much bootstrap html in that file as i can.  If I need a widget, I add it but stay focused on the html instead of gwtbootstrap3 widgets.  I only use a widget when absolutely necessary.

I think overall performance is better and the end result is not so widget heavy.
