Connecting SVG shapes using straight lines

Hi
I was wondering if I can connect SVG shapes such as rectangle,circles
by using straight line connections. I am using Xml/SVG files to get
different shapes and now I want to connect them using straight line.
Please advise if you already have any examples on this.
