customizing the underlying html

Hi,

I have a peculiar requirement i.e. I would like to custom manage the html generated in the background while the user uses the editor. e.g. when user adds a specific component lets say a text box I would like to instead add a html span element with some custom attributes in them instead. 

Also I am looking at adding multiple custom component support to the editor e.g. different types of buttons etc. 

Any pointers would be highly appreciable. Thanks, Debasish
