MUSIC, PERFORMANCES, STORIES TO HIGHLIGHT GWMS PTA BOOK FAIR

Join the GWMS PTA at the Potomac Yard Barnes and Noble from 4-9 on Friday, December 12 to finish your holiday shopping and enjoy live performances, crafts and stories with our talented middle school students and teachers.  A portion of the sales Friday, in the store, and through Tuesday, December 16 for online purchases, will benefit the George Washington PTA and its programs.  Mention GWMS and its voucher number 11346442 at checkout.  GW students and parents will be on hand to gift-wrap your purchases.  The language department at GW will begin the festivities with the German Department reading a Grimm’s Fairy Tale; the French Department reading “Madeline at Christmas”; and the Spanish Department telling the “Tale of the Poinsettia”.  Each language group will also sponsor a related craft.  The GW award-winning orchestra and choir will perform around 5 p.m.  Hope to see you there tomorrow!

Please be on the lookout - Student Directories will be making their way home starting tomorrow. Please note that strict ACPS regulations mean that we could only include the information you provided, and all had to be entered manually. Can't find your family? If you are new to the school, forgot to return the form (or thought you did but we didn't get it), now wish you'd checked "yes include" instead of "no," or if I just bungled your entry (abject apologies), please contact Laurie Winakur at lwin...@verizon.net with your information immediately or fill out the online form here. If we receive sufficient interest by 12/18, we will publish an addendum and distribute right after the break. Sounds like a great idea! How about make a little flyer, and I'll ask the organizer if she can have it at the gift wrapping table?? Meanwhile, I can also send out as a supplemental tweet - would love retweets if you are so moved to help get the word out!

I am wondering if you could please ask our GW community that when people are supporting GWMS at the Barnes and Noble Book Fair, they purchase a book to donate to Alexandria Book Shelf (ABS). We are the beneficiary of the Holiday Book Drive for the Potomac Yards Barnes and Noble.

Alexandria Book Shelf is providing access to free books where our low-income children live, play, go to school or just hang out. We are in more than 35 sites including GWMS, all our Title 1 schools, all our REC Centers, FACE Centers, Boys and Girls Club, ARHA, DCHS, Shelters, Community outreach sites, Alexandria Neighborhood Health, Child Find, Campagna Center, ALIVE Child Development Center, Child Family Network Centers and many more.

Book Donations of gently loved books are being accepted this Saturday from 1-3 at Charles Houston REC.

Thank you for supporting Alexandria Book Shelf and giving the "Gift of Literacy" this holiday season!
