BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT THIS TUESDAY AT 7:00pm
Please join Mr. Mazur and the teaching and administrative staff for this important night. Meet in the gym for a brief introduction, then visit each of your child's classes (student ambassadors on hand to keep us from getting lost!). A copy of your child's schedule will be sent home tomorrow, but if you don't get it, an additional copy will be available in the library. One stop shopping for all PTA activities, as well: join, volunteer, pick up info on fundraisers, fill out the directory online form and much more! Stop by the alcove just outside the library and let us help you.
DIRECTORY DEADLINE IS TUESDAY, 9/16
It's not too late to be included in this year's GW PTA Family Directory, but you must opt in. Please fill out the online form here. Scout's honor, it's really quick and easy. Type carefully - we will use exactly what you type!
DINE OUT AT FIREFLIES TOMORROW NIGHT - GW GETS 10% Come support George Washington's Middle School fundraiser at Fireflies on Tuesday, September 9th. This is a great opportunity to get dinner prior to Back to School Night or after the event. FireFlies is located at 1501 Mount Vernon Avenue which is walking distance from the school. Please bring the attached flier so that GWMS receives 10% of the profit. We hope to see you there!
TIME TO SIGN UP FOR ART ON THE AVENUE!
Check out the GWMS art project featured on the Art on the Avenue Children’s Activities page! Once you are inspired by last year’s product, you can sign up here to help GW students at the event on October 4th . Thank you to Gena Alexa, Angela Desperd and PTA President, Kathy Stenzel for getting things started. Can you join us? We still need additional help, especially with the later shifts. You can contact Patrice Linehan (703-946-5431) or Angela Lutzker directly … or sign up here.
CLIPPING BOXTOPS MEANS EASY MONEY FOR GW
All you need is a pair of scissors. Last year we raised over $600 for GW, thanks to all of you who clipped and sent in your Boxtops to the main office. We need to get that number even higher this year - this is an easy fundraiser that even your kids can help with!
ATTENTION BAND FAMILIES Please join our GW Band Boosters email list by sending a request to gwbandb...@gmail.com. It's a great way to stay informed about upcoming band events, Directors' concert instructions, etc. For more information, or to find out how you can help support the band program this year, please contact Judy Fox at judy...@yahoo.com. Thank you!
PTA-HOSTED STAFF BREAKFAST and WELCOME BACK PARENT COFFEE WERE A SUCCESS THANKS TO YOU!
Thank you to all who supported the Staff Breakfast in August and Parent Coffee the first day of school. The Hospitality Committee could not have provided breakfast to 200 Teachers and Staff, or so graciously welcomed so many new parents to the school without your help. Special thanks to St. Elmo’s on Mt. Vernon Avenue for providing coffee and to Café Pizzaiolo on Fern St. for providing eggs. Thank you also to the following people who contributed to one or both of these events: Maria Anthony, Megan Crowe, Amy Ernst, Christy Finn, Jordan Franken, Lisa Frye, Lisa Jacobs, Pam Jones, Kathryn Kaiser, Stephanie Larsen, Katherine Leon, Nancy McKenna, Catherine Petrini, Marie Randall, Devin Reese, Jennifer Roda, Beth Simmons, Kathy Stenzel, Eileen Wallace, Rosie Wiedemer, Laurie Winakur, Beth Yancey, and Becky Yowell. For question about the Hospitality Committee, please contact: Stephanie St. John via e-mail at stephan...@hotmail.com.
MANY THANKS TO CACTUS HUG FOR FABULOUS TUNES AT THE 6TH GRADE SOCIAL!
A special thank you to CACTUS HUG for great entertainment at the 6th Grade Social. These students shared their amazing talent and donated their time. Three of the band members attend GW: Kate Sapp (guitar and vocals) - 8th grade, Noah Sapp (bass) - 6th grade, and Nathan Huguley (guitar and vocals) - 8th grade. These students are part of the ROAM Rock School. See the attached flyer for more information on ROAM.
