Hello!

We have built an HTML5 ad at 250x250 using Google Web Designer. We've built similar ads before and had no issues, but for some reason we are not able to upload this particular ad.

We tried validating the ad files and everything validates fine, but whenever we attempt to upload the file we receive the following error: "The HTML5 Ad Is a Custom Layout for a Different Ad Format." (see screenshot).

Also, when uploading the zip to the validator it uploads fine, but when we click the preview it just shows us a blank box (see attached screenshot).

We can't see anything obviously wrong with the files, and even Google's own documentation doesn't include any references to this specific error message ( https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6335679 ).

We've run out of things to try at this point, and are hoping you may have some suggestions about this particular error message and what might have caused it?

Hi,

Would you be able to attach the screenshot you mentioned? We were not able to see a screenshot in the post. I'm also checking in with AdWords regarding the specific error message you mentioned.

thx

Thanks very much for the screenshots! I've checked in with AdWords and they mentioned that Dynamic on their end is not quite enabled for all accounts, although they are rolling this out very soon. So essentially the error is that you are attempting to upload a dynamic ad through the regular upload ad flow (https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/3265299):

Upload dynamic ads created with Google Web Designer

You can use Google Web Designer to create dynamic ads that can then be uploaded to AdWords. This option isn't available yet in all accounts (if it is available, you'll see it as an option when you upload your own layout).

As soon as this is live for everyone, we will update the forum (and I'm sure AdWords will have launch info related to this as well).

I have the same problem, however, my Adwords account says HTML5 Ads are now supported. Any idea why it can happen?

Hi Laura,

Is your Ad a Dynamic Creative? If so, please follow the upload instruction here: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/3265299?hl=en#gwd

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Emily

Hi Emily,

Thanks for your help, however, I already followed these instructions and I still see this message when we try to upload it.
Just in case the problem was relative to the campaign type. I have now tried in a Display Network only - All features campaign with dynamic settings active and a feed.
I am getting the same error message.
Cheers,
Laura

Hi Laura,

I am sorry that you still run into the problem. Can we take a look and try with your files (both authoring file and the published file)? Please send them over to gwd-s...@google.com.

I'm also having this issue.

I followed all the instructions, however I couldn't upload the dynamic ad.

Any further solutions?

Two things to confirm:
  1. You are using a Google Web Design Template for "Dynamic remarketing for Adwords" see screenshot1
  2. When uploading to Adwords, you are using the Original Adwords UI (not Beta), following the instructions Create standard dynamic ads from the help doc and step #4 looks like attached screenshot2.
If you are still having problems please send your zip file and indicate your Adwords Feed Vertical (such as Retail or Flights).

Hope that helps,

Kent
