Hello ,

I’m trying to create a banner ad for AdWords with GWD, and I would like to know if I need to add a Tap component on it for the ClickTAG?

Thanks,
Marion

Hi Marion,

ClickTAGs are usually only required snippets of code for Flash ads whereas HTML5 ads in AdWords have that ClickTAG functionality already built in.Just to confirm: a tap component for a clickTAG is NOT necessary. The click-through functionality that ClickTAGs usually provide is already inherited.

thx!

so I do not need to add a tap component into my GWD banner if this is being used inside Adwords?

The destination url within Adwords will handle a click on the entire banner canvas?

so this step isn't needed https://support.google.com/webdesigner/answer/3263494?hl=en&ref_topic=3261495

thanks!

As a long time Flash banner maker this is something I am curious about to.

I am guessing there is a fundamental change we as Flash people are struggling with.

The clickTAG is just a command sent to the AdForm system (as you know). The URL is not set by us as designer/developer. So since GWD is asking for a landing page is for us a bit strange. We are not used to it. And we almost never have that information.

So, what do we do if we dont have a clickTAG code and dont have the URL for the banner we are making? But the media still want our creative.

Thomas, exactly described the scenario -

I've read conflicting info on this forum when it comes to the click tag equivalent in html5 - it seems no one knows 100% and it also depends on the ad platform.

I have a query in with Google Adwords support about this as well, and also about having a back up image if their browser doesn't support html5 (similar to how you have a backup image if the person doesn't have flash installed).

I will post back when I get an answer

I asked AdForm about Adobe Edge, and Google Web Designer and clickTAG. This is the reply I got:

We could recommend to use Adform toolkit, share specifications. I'm sorry, we don't have such things for Google or Adobe product. This should be advised from their side.

HTML5 toolkit: http://html5toolkit.adform.com/
HTML5 specs: http://test.adform.com/testpage/banner-specifications/html5-banner/standard-html-ad/

If any assistance is needed to implement our clickTAG, please let us know. Here are some details as well: http://test.adform.com/testpage/banner-specifications/general-specifications/clicktag-variables/

Have a good day.

Hi Jasmine,

I have tried both this https://support.google.com/webdesigner/answer/3263494?hl=en&ref_topic=3261495 and this https://support.google.com/richmedia/answer/3182727?hl=en method but with no luck. I cannot make the click-through page to appear when the ad is uploaded on Google Adwords and therefore no tracking is available.

Can you please shed some light here?
