Was wondering what the trick is to using Enabler.exitQueryString with GWD?

I am simply trying to append a value to an exitURL in GWD with the tap component.

I have tried numerous ways to set up the function according to these instructions...

but cannot seem to get it to fire. Not even with a hardcoded variable.

Is there not supposed to be an exit event added in GWD, but only added in studio? (tried it)

In the attached file, you will see that I have Enabler.exitQueryString added to an existing function along with an alert. All fire, but nothing gets added to the URL.

Thx!

Update--

Chatted with DoubleClick Studio support. Evidently there is a bug with using exits with GWD in combination with Enabler.exitQueryString that the engineering team is aware of.

If someone could post here when it is fixed - that would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. I will log a bug on your behalf and let the team know.

By the way, is it possible for you to send the source files to us for the team to take a look? Please attach it to this post or simply send it to gwd-s...@google.com.

Thanks a lot,
Emily (GWD Team)

Solved. Thanks all! (Emily & GWD Team)

The right combination between GWD and DoubleClick Studio was the answer.

Solution:
In GWD (and in Design View) set the custom code event on the Tap Area component. Do not add an exit event (URL) in GWD.

Once uploaded to studio you will see the custom event you added listed under Exits in the Edit Events pane. It is there that you can manually add the destination URL. You will be able to test/view the string being added to the exit URL in the Preview pane of studio.

Cheers.

I'm wondering if anyone one could shed some light on exactly how you were able to get Enabler.exitQueryString to work. I am currently trying to follow the exact example that is provided by google, take users zipcode and append it to url, but I am not having such success. I was wondering if you could go into more detail on how to perform this as there does not seem to be a lot of information on how to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Thomas,

You need to preview on Studio with the destination url set in Studio for it to work.  Preview locally will not work.

Here are the steps:
1. In a file with DoubleClick environment, add a taparea component on stage.
2. Add a tap/click event on the taparea component to use custom actions, in the custom action, you can call Enabler.exitQueryString.
3. Upload the publish zip to Studio.
4. In the Edit Events tab on Studio, make sure you enter a Destination url.

5. Preview in Studio and it should work.

Here is a link to the GWD author file so you can take a look.

Hope it helps.

I'm wondering if anyone has a sample file showing how to append key-value pairs to an exit URL when the key-value pairs are set by the trafficker? I'm struggling to get that to work.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone know if there is a workaround to this for those who don't have access to Studio? Even if it can be manually coded in the HTML file?

I would like to append a key-value to the exit URL using the macro %%PATTERN:key%%

Thank you.
