Hey there.

I've been working out the kinks for dynamic ads in Google web Designer and have been making sure that I get my head around binding elements in the dynamic tab in GWD.

Now When I set up my feed with my desired text and properties, bind them to the elements on the stage and preview the ad, when I select my custom feed, the feed doesn't talk to the bound elements.

For instance, if I have a text element on the stage and bind it to "headline.txt" in the dynamic feed, preview it and select my feed, it does not update with what I have on my feed in the .json file.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Maybe I'm missing a line of code.

A quick reply would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi mmusa,

Are you creating a dynamic ad for AdWords environment? When you preview the file, have you tried selecting the sample feed that GWD provided? Does the sample feed work or it show the same issue like your custom JSON file?

Would it be okay for us to take a look at your creative and your JSON file? Please zip up your source files (not the published one) and the JSON file, attach it to this post, or you can simply send it over to gwd-s...@google.com.

Thanks,
Emily (GWD Team)

Thanks for the reply.

Currently, I have created the ad with a dynamic template which from what I understand has the ad words environment. Is the dynamic feature available in double click?

When I preview the file, I have the option to go with the sample feed and my custom. The sample feed works, but again if I use my custom feed or even edit the sample feed, it's as if the code breaks and doesn't recognise that I have bound anything to the feed.

Here is the file I'm working off. It's just a simple file with two text elements and I'm trying to change what they say through the dynamic feature.

Hi,

Thanks for sending us the test files. I took a look at them and notice that there are unmatched double quotes used in "Headline_0_txt”:”Your Way In”,”Headline_0_cta":"Buy Now!"...

I have corrected the JSON file for you. Can you try again with the attached file? Hope it works for you.

Thanks,

Hey,

Thanks for looking at my file. I tried the updated .JSON file that you sent through and it worked, however when I edited it (Keeping in mind that I just edited the text and didn't touch the quote marks in the code) the feed acted as if the line of code was broken and didn't read it. I edited the text again and now that particular feed doesn't even show up in the preview.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael,

What kind of text editor do you use? is there an option in your text editor where you can reformat the JSON file? Your original JSON file is in minified format and probably it is missing a comma somewhere in the lines when you editing the text.

Please also check that your text editor is using unicode UTF-8 setting.

I have attached a reformatted (non-minified) version of your JSON file. Can you try with that one and see if it works better that the previous version?

Thanks,
Emily (GWD Team)
