Hello GWD Developers and Users,

I just wanted to throw out this issue because it's causing issues for me. Until recently in GWD you would Set the 'Exit ad' action on a TapArea and then set the metrics ID to something and then the click tag could be left blank so that ad-level landing page URL would kick in. Now when I upload into DoubleClick (DC) it sets the click-tag to an empty 'http://' and it doesn't make sense.

Somebody haver any suggestions or solutions to this matter?

This is an example of an old banner that was uploaded. This way worked:

This is an example of a newly exported banner. This way that doesn't work anymore:

This seems more like a DoubleClick issue, but I'm not 100%.

Hi Wes,

I try to do the same in my file by putting an empty exit url in the Exit Event:

When I upload the published zip file to DoubleClick DCM, I don't see the "http://" appear in the Click Tags section:

Do you have different steps than mine? Did you upload to DCM directly or publish to Studio first and then traffic to DCM?

Thanks,

Emily

So now go to the campaign level and assign it a URL, and then preview the banner. You'll notice it doesn't work. After you look back in the banner properties, you'll see it say 'http://'

It should say ''Uses the ad-level click-through URL", and yours is blank, I can tell yours probably wont work.

Hi Wes,

I can see the same problem even I uploaded with a creative that is built in older version of GWD. I think something is changed on DoubleClick side. It seems that they have changed the creative types to "Display" (before I could select "HTML5 Banner"). So probably it is also changing the way they set up the Click Through URL in the creative.

I think it would be best for you to contact DCM Support to take a look.

Please also see the help page about Click Through URLs: https://support.google.com/dcm/answer/4483813?hl=en#click.

Thanks,
Emily

Well I would hope that is one of the your teams responsibilities as well to contact DCM and resolve this issues so your product can work; or at least adjust your product to accommodate the new 'Display' creative type.

I will contact them in the mean time. Thanks for being able to replicate this issue.

Keep me posted on when this is resolved on your end.

Hi Wes,

I have contacted DCM engineers. They replied that the Display creative does work differently than HTML5 Banner in the context of ad creative click throughs. Unlike HTML5 banner, the Display creative requires that an exit URL is defined, as a blank URL will not mean it will inherit and use the Ad level click through. The Display creative has always worked this way, and HTML5 Banner has been deprecated recently.

So to make sure the Ad work for Display creatives, we will require an Exit URL defined (as in the Exit Ad action in GWD). If we want the Ad-level click-through URL, we will need to manually change it on the Ad creative assignment in DCM UI.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Emily
