Hi,

I'm trying to build an html5 banner with a small video (ovg)  in it. The problem comes when I try to add the "mouseover" event when user places their mouse over the playing video to start the sound. In other browsers it is ok and the the video plays normally and when the mouseover event occurs the sound is unmuted/plays normal.

Does anyone have any idea how this can be fixed for chrome?

Much appreciated, thanks

Hi Andreas,

Do you have the problem only when autoplay is on?

Thanks,

Hi San,

No, the mouseover sound works either way, it's the video that stops and only in Chrome.

1. if autoplay + mouseover => video stops & sound turns on
2. if no-autoplay + mouseover => sound turns on
3. if no-autoplay + mouseover + play-button => video plays & sound turns on
4. if in other browsers, video and sound work as expected

Hi Andreas,

This looks like this is due to the new Chrome policy on autoplay. A mouseover is not considered a user interaction so the video will pause when sound is un-muted. Sorry I couldn't find a workaround even when I tried to detect if the video is playing before mouseover to play it again, it would not play.
