Interesting question.  :-)  I think for the short term at least the focus is very much on on design and add generaton but I don't want to speak for the engineering team.  I think it veers on a side f web development just a little.  :-)

I just downloaded GWD, and haven't even loaded it yet. But, I was anticipating the same questions. However, since this is using Javascript, I expect we can just make AJAX calls to a Web Service that hosts a relational database.

Of course you will likely need code this, rather than building data access through the interface.

Consider looking into that.

I was just looking for a similar requirement. I am newbie to GWD. Since this post is 3 years old, wanted to check if this feature is now added into GWD. I am planning to use GWD as a front end web UI for backend JDBC compliant database. Please let me know if that is possible with GWD.
