Hello! I have installed google web designer. After clicking it's start up icon, it gives a "white blank screen" with no response whatsoever. Nothing happens with ctrl-N or anything. SO, please help me ! anyone!

Hi Abdul,

Are you using a web proxy to connect to the internet? There is a known issue that GWD can't connect to the internet to download the necessary files on initial launch if you are using a proxy. We're investigating a way to allow you to enter the proxy settings for GWD to run.

Thanks,
Nivesh

Hi,

Please check out our latest forum post regarding the proxy issue, as well as turning on verbose logging (sending us the logs will help troubleshoot the issue): http://goo.gl/7Xxil4

Hi,

I just installed GWD (1.0.3.0115) on my Windows 7 64bit Home

I also get blank screen, the difference is that it turns all black to me. After a splash screen I can see the application UI for a second then everything goes black.

I turned the verbose logging on on my machine and here's what it tells to whom it may tell anything:

browser.log

Hi again,

I was able to run the application in 256 color mode. It's rather unusable with this color depth but at least no black screen.

Furthermore, I tried to decrease screen resolution (1920 x 1080 now) but no use. Changing from true color (32 bit) to high color (16 bit) didn't help as well.

Anyone?

Finally,

For GWD I changed permanently from Nvidia, which is my default card, to built-in Intel based graphics card which solved the issue.

Thanks guys,

Then that could be the problem. GWD pays absolutely no attention to the proxy settings,
it tries to reach the server directly.

What happens if you try to download the file without the proxy?

I'm behind a company proxy. Downloading without the proxy fails. I saw some documentation for getting the proxy to work with Windows and Mac, but nothing for Linux. Is there anyway to get it to autodetect proxy or to setup proxy? I will be installing this at home as well, though I will still need it for work at some point.

I don't know how to make GWD obey (autodetect) proxy settings in Linux, maybe San does...
(you can always use Redsocks and avoid setting a proxy at all)

Please try the following proxy settings for GWD, for Linux, the file that you can edit is at ~/.local/share/google-web-designer/preferences/settings.conf

We'll update this help doc to add the file path for Linux.

Please let us know how it's working out for you.

I've tried Kubuntu on VMWare without proxy server and got the same error so I'm not sure if proxy is the cause.

Thanks,
San

I tried setting proxy-auto-detect=true, or proxy-server=http://localhost:8080 with no luck.
I couldn't get GWD to proxy a single request.
I also tried supplyng  command-line arguments like I'd do in regular Chromium.

I'm having my co-worker (who is running Ubuntu) perform the troubleshooting along with myself to reduce the number of variables. The following are the current contents of ~/.local/share/google-web-designer/preferences/setting.conf:

[WindowInfo]
maximized=false
width=1024
height=768
left=2008
top=174
verbose-logging=1
proxy-server="http://server.mycompany.com:8080"

I have tried it with and without the double-quotes, as well as using 1, YES and true for verbose-logging. Is the syntax incorrect?

One question: should the proxy settings go in a specific section of the configuration file?
I have tried putting them under [Settings] as well as under [WindowInfo].

I can wget the file though.

Hi sea,

The new version will auto update, you can check the version number by opening Google Web Designer; the version number will show on the splash screen. Once you have GWD open, you can also navigate to Help>About Google Web Designer to view the version number again.

A quick search for "how to set proxy settings" should help. You can then pull up our proxy settings Help Center article for more info.

thx

hi,
I am not sure if everyone gave up or not. This is what linux told me thru the terminal

~$ google-webdesigner
The program 'google-webdesigner' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
(Details: serial 659 error_code 9 request_code 72 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Jaz, I've tried reading several times in the proxy help section and the instructions aren't followable. Meaning to start off, are we just changing lines in the settings.conf file? Or are we having to change something with chrome/chromium. I don't have chrome or chromium installed on my linux mint. I have located the settings.conf file. If we are altering just that file, what exactly are we plugging into that file (or deleting if that may be the case). Here is what I currently have in that file:

[WindowInfo]
maximized=false
width=1024
height=716
left=167
top=0
proxy-auto-detect=true
verbose-logging=false

I still get a white screen and I'm not trying to lose my patience with this program but I am getting close to it. Thank you.

Hi Jaz,

Apologies for the frustration and we do appreciate your patience. The white screen issue may not be something you can actually fix at the moment, we're still collecting feedback to determine the issue. On another note, Linux Mint is not a distribution we support, so there may be other issues that even solving the white screen issue may not fix for you. We'll continue to update the white screen thread and hopefully once we have a fix this will also solve your issue on Mint (although we cannot guarantee Mint will work).

I know, not great news at all, but I wanted to respond back to you as soon as possible.

Non vedo soluzioni tangibili,

https://support.google.com/webdesigner/answer/3546718
