Hey All,

I'm just starting out with Web Designer, and I'm sure I'm missing something basic, but I tried inserting a video and I'm only getting the first image when I preview it. The video is 7s long, is an Mp4, and is sourced through my local drive. I got it to work once, and now I'm just getting this placeholder image that's the first frame of the clip. I've tried changing the settings (autoplay, loop, etc...). I've tried in multiple browsers (all to the same effect unfortunately). I've checked and triple-checked that the source is accurate. What am I missing?? Sorry if this is a newbie question.

Do you use the video component or video tag?  Is it possible to send us your file including the video so we can take a look?  gwd-s...@google.com

You know, I used the video component for the first one and the tag after that; I'll see if that was the trouble. What exactly is the difference between the two? How can I send you the file/video?

Just tried with both the tag and the component and I'm still just getting the first frame; won't play. Here's a link to a Drive file with the HTML file and the video.

Thanks for sharing the files.

For Ads file or HTML with Pages, you should use the video component.  Autoplay doesn't work for Ads and HTML with Pages for the video tag, you must right click and select Play to play the video.  However, please note that autoplay doesn't work on the browser on the mobile devices anyway because mobile browsers disable video autoplay to keep users from incurring data charges for unrequested content.

In your file, for the video component, you have added the video source in the Name field instead of the Source field in the Properties panel.  Once you add the video source to the Source field, video should work.

Thanks,

Hi San,

Newbie here as well.  I have made an expandable ad in GWD. Please have a look at the link below. I had added a video tag in the expanded portion of the AD unit. Is it possible for it to Autoplay the video, as soon as the viewer clicks on the ad? Plus once the user closes the ad, is there a way for the video to restart, when the viewer clicks on it again?

Thanks!

Hi Jawad,

It sounds like there are some options to do exactly what you're asking:

Use the expanded ads file type and add the video component to your expanded page.
When the user clicks to the expand button you can set the video component to autoplay via the component properties
You can then add an exit event that collapses the ad and goes back to the first page. Then when the user hits expand again, the ad will expand and autoplay the video.

Give this a try and let us know if you run into any issues!

thx
