We are looking for a tool to quickly model and demo and deploy interactive animated web pages and/or sites.

Researching GWD some questions have come up and we are wondering if these issues have been addressed... or if they are even true...

1 - - It’s not a web design application but an animated advertising tool.

2 - - Unable to open HTML files not created by Web Designer.

3 - Only works on Webkit browsers

thanks for any help.

Hey Mel,

Yes, we can help answer your questions:

1 - - It’s not a web design application but an animated advertising tool.
Check out our article, that answers your question directly: What is Google Web Designer
If there are items you need from our tool, please provide feedback in our GWD Feedback post, we would love to hear what you need specifically.

2 - - Unable to open HTML files not created by Web Designer.
Yes, currently we only open GWD created files. We have definitely heard from our users about this one :-), and we're taking steps now, so please stay tuned.

3 - Only works on Webkit browsers
The animations you create with GWD will work in a variety of modern browsers because they are implemented using CSS keyframes. While you are working on your file, GWD will only use Webkit prefixes in the CSS to help keep the code simple. When you are done and publish your final results, you can pick what browser vendor prefixes you want in the final CSS code.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

thx

jaz,
Please allow me a few follow-up's if you don't mind.
1 - Animation - Can GWD be used to create animations? Have objects... appear after a time delay... follow a path, change color, change size, etc?
2 - Can you make the design fill the entire screen or most of the screen?
3 - When you 'publish' I assume you end up with some html, html5, css, and java script code... right? anything else?
4 - Then the developer would just integrate that code into a web page or put it into some kind of library or file so that it could be placed on pages as required... via a rotator or some such... right
5 - I've used image files to 'rotate' or insert on-demand the pic on web pages but not sure how to do a bunch of code... can you point me to a tutorial?
This should be enough to get me going.
Thanks for your help.

Certainly, we're happy to assist:

A number of your questions are answered on our Help Center as well, so feel free to take a look around if you like.

1 - Animation - Can GWD be used to create animations? Have objects... appear after a time delay... follow a path, change color, change size, etc? Most of this can be done now, although we do not have motion paths just yet. Create Timeline Animations.
2 - Can you make the design fill the entire screen or most of the screen? Well you can certainly make the ad a very large size :-), but I believe you are talking about Interstitial ads. If so, you can find more info here
3 - When you 'publish' I assume you end up with some html, html5, css, and java script code... right? anything else? Correct, you can also check out additional Publish details in the linked article

I'm not quite sure about the questions below, I'll add in a dev to assist!
