I'm trying to build a post-it note rich media ad with the Interstitial template in the most recent version of GWD. The build goes fine in all aspects with the exception of two vital areas:
  1. Clicking the Tap Area that sits over the close button image doesn't fire it's selected event (Report Manual Close)
  2. The Report Manual Close event assigned to the page's "Animation complete" doesn't work and the ad won't unload from the page
The ad works normally when you tap on the exit link tap area.

Image attached of the event settings for the tap area over the close button graphic.

Any ideas or thoughts on why this is occurring?

Hi Mike,

The Report Manual Close event is for tracking purpose only; it would increment the Rich Media Manual Close counter if you preview the Ad in DoubleClick Studio and click on the Tap Area. However, it would not close the page.

If your file has multiple pages and you want the Tap Area to close a page, you can try to set a Go To Page action for the Tap Area.

Thanks,
Emily (GWD Team)

Emily, thanks for your response! I completely spaced on the report action. However, I didn't properly explain what I want the tap area to do. I want that tap area to close the ad on whatever web page it is being displayed on. The flash method would be to put enabler.close in the action script, triggered by a mouse click. Does that make more sense?

I also wish to add a close btn on which the end user can tap, and the page ad closes.
Does anyone know if this is possible for generic environment (and Doubleclick) in GWD?

Hi guys,

Can you give us a little more explanation on closing the Ad? Are you referring to an expanded page in the Ad? For example, you click on a Ad on a web page and it expands (open a overlay page), and you just want to click a close (X) button to close that expanded page?

Both Banner and Interstitial template files do not have a default Close button. But we do provide one in the Expandable Ad template file. Can you try with it first? The Expandable Ad file works for generic environment as well as DoubleClick.

Thanks,
Emily (GWD Team)

Hi Emily,

Thanks for the reply.

No, not an expanded ad, an Interstitial, with the close (X) button for the user to close the ad manually whenever they want.
I am trying to test the close button (with tap area) from the Expandable Ad template file, but now GWD has auto updated, I cannot open my previous working files!

Any suggestions welcome please....

Thanks
Tracey

Hi Tracey,

When you open the previous GWD file in the new version, you would be asked to upgrade the file. Did you see the message box at all? Did you see any error after upgrade?
Would you mind sending us your source files to gwd-s...@google.com so that we can take a look?

Thanks.,
Emily (GWD Team)

Emily, in DoubleClick For Publishers parlance, the ad type would be an "out-of-page." Since that wasn't an option, I used interstitial. The ad I am trying to create is a post-it note type ad. It zooms onto the web page, remains in place for 15 seconds, then zooms out of the page. For the zooming out, the ad reduces in size to 10%, then the ad should unload completely ("close") and allow the viewer to access the content on the web page that was behind the ad. The ad I'm building zooms down to 10%, but it doesn't unload, so the viewer never regains control of the web page below where the ad is. I need to know how to unload the ad completely from the webpage after it has finished its 15-second run.

Also, I need to know how to get the ad to unload completely when a tap area is clicked.

Hi Emily,

In expanded ad it is ok if you put two action when closing. First using the Report Manual Close and second to close the Expanded button and back to banner ad

thanks,
Joy
