Hey there GWD enthusiasts!

I have a question regarding MetricsID and the URL linking within the Events function. I was wondering how everyone is utilizing that tool?

Am I supposed to link to my own Exit Ad URL or is the information I input on AdWords doing that for me regardless of how my file is linking out in Events?

As for the Metrics ID, is this something I create or is this given to me via AdWords?

I hope to meet more GWD users and build a network for cross-communication as much as possible so please feel free to reach out to me on this thread or via email.

Thanks!

Best,

Hi Nikoo,

Please use the taparea component and add the exit event that links to your exit ad URL.  If you don't have an exit url set in your creative, AdWords will automatically put a click exit on the body to go to the exit url defined in AdWords and you might not want that.  AdWords only allows one exit (unless you use dynamic ad which can have multiple exits to different product urls in retails for example) so I think you can just set metric id in Google Web Designer to anything you want.

Hope it helps,
San

Hey San,

Thank you for your feedback. I am still confused as to how the linking works within my file if I do not add a 'Exit Ad' URL on the CTA. I have tap area components in my playable which function as the playable itself, those are fine and I understand how to use them.

My question is more specifically in reference to the CTA  'INSTALL'  area. Does the CTA also need it's own tap area component? Would that tap area link to the address input (Metrics ID?) from my AdWords? I will email you an example for your viewing/feedback.

Thank you.

Best,
Nikoo

Hi Nikoo,

In Google Web Designer events dialog for exit event, you can leave the Exit URL empty and it will exit to the exit url you define in AdWords.  You can add the exit event directly to the CTA without using taparea component and it should work fine.  The benefit of using taparea is that it handles tap on the mobile device and click on the desktop nicely.  If you want to use taparea, then just put it on top of your cta button and add the exit event.
AdWords will detect if exit event is in the ad so as long as you have it in your creative, it should be fine.  If you don't, AdWords adds the exit URL you defined in AdWords on the body and a click anywhere on the creative would trigger the exit.

Hope it's clearer.

Hi San,

I tried applying the event to the CTA but I cannot fully do it without entering a Metrics ID. I attached a screenshot of what I am getting. Any idea what that Metrics ID is or should be? Is the Metrics ID something I need to pull from Adwords?

Best,
Nikoo
