I am a little confused. I just discovered GWD today and have put together my first website. My domain name is from Hostgator. Can my finished GWD site be published directly to the internet using the domain name through Google or do I need to have it hosted by a site like Hostgator?

Hi Tammy,

There is no support in Google Web Designer to publish a website directly to a domain or hosted site. YOu will need to have it hosted somewhere. Google Web Designer is a HTML5 authoring tool that can make HTML5 content with a focus on creating ads. You can certainly use Google Web Designer to create a website and a few people have done it. However, it might not be the best option to create a website. For example, there is no component to create navigation buttons or menu. One use case I've seen is that people creating an animation in Google Web Designer and bringing it to their website.

Hi San
I Can't Agree with you here. Add a nav element and you have a menu. Doubleclick the nav element and add links into it. Use css styling on the links (a elements) and create whatever nice buttons you want (you can even find much nice button css for free on the web).

Gwd is better for creating web sites than many out there knows. As one of the developers you MUST know.

I am not a developer and like how easy it was to create the website. I need to publish it. I was going to post it with host gator but if either one of you know of a host that supports GWD or is easier to do so please let me know. Do any one have the instructions for a non developer to post this with a hosting company? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Tammy
There is NO PROBLEM AT ALL to publish your website at hostgator or any web hotel. To do this has nothing to do with Gwd at all. Press the publish button and select local. Then all the files needed for your website will be saved in one folder. To publish you must transfer these files to your hostgator. For this purpose you will need a program with ftp utilities. I will recommend filezilla. You can download it free just Google filezila. To use this program you need the username and password you got from hostgator.

To be more specific, your problem now is not a Gwd one. Hostgator must be able to help. Check their faqs: how to upload a website.

Hi again Tammy

To upload, check out this videos:

Upload with cPanel:

This video is very how to, but, using cPanels filemananger, you must pick the files one by one.  Should work OK, then you don't need Fielzila.

Upload with Filezilla:

With fileZilla you can copy/paste all files in one operation,  but, of course, you must install and set up fileZilla first.

My advice is: If this is a "once in a liftime" thing for you, use cPanel method.  If you are planning to work with websites, use the fileZilla method.  Once it is setup it is easy to use.

Hope this helps!

Svein-Tore
