This message appears after reopen any document produced in GWD. I see the warning appears only when you're not working locally on the hard drive BTW if I have my portfolio hosted in my cloud or NAS not able to work normally, this happens right after the last update

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for reporting the issue.  I was able to reproduce it using a shared network drive.  I've filed a bug.

I noticed that even with the error, I was able to work with the file, preview, publish, etc.  We'll investigate the issue and let you know what we find.

Thanks,
San

ojesworks,

Which custom component did you use?  If it's your own component, please repackage the component by selecting the files instead of the folder when you zip it.

Thanks,

I use my own components. But when repackaging all the files and installing them again, the tootilps still appears.

I tried dragging the component to the document or opening the html file with components in documents.

I still have the same issue. For example when I draw a path with the pen tool.
I wouldn't want to finish tens of banners and then discover that the publisher has issues.

I work on a NAS myself. Saving to my local machine is not an option.

Any help?

Cheers,
Luca

Hi, im using version 2.0.2.1128.
I am also getting this error.
The file appears to be all there in the editing mode, but when i preview it, my background image is missing and my text and button dont animate. The only element of my design that shows up is a gradient box.
I am also working off a server. BUT this same thing happened even when i was working off my local desktop.

I see this thread goes back a few years, any resolution to this issue yet? or can you tell me how to build/store/manage my source files and application so this doesnt happen? Thanks.

actually i just tried making sure the components layer (tap area) was the top layer and when i opened the file back up all elemets and animations were way off position, up in negative xy values. so somethign is ruining my files. I need to recreate all of this now to fix my file.

Hi Jeff,

Can you please share the author file with us so we can take a look at it? Is it possible to share the author file with us? Open the file in Google Web Designer, select File > Save as zip...and share the file either in this post or to gwd-s...@google.com.

Thanks,
San

also, here are some screen grabs.
I cant preview the file. See the empty container in browser
I can publish that file. see screen grab.
the other odd thing is that once that file develops errors and gets wonky, i cant move it, delete or zip it. the file is corrupt and  cant even be removed from the server. crazy huh? see screen grab of error.

im curious whether this is a server issue.
Is there a proper protocol or methodology regarding how to download and save the application. where its located relative to where the files are created and saved. Is there an issue with roots/paths of file names, folder names etc..

This problem is back in version 2.0.3.0109 for all file types created in the newest version.

I can re-open files that were created in 2.0.2.1128 without error, but get the error when closing and re-opening a newly created file.

I have the same problem, as of 1/13/2018.

Is there a work around? Change some codes in the published file?

I have a computer with 2.0.2, if I disable internet before opening the GWD to prevent it from updating to 2.0.3, will it work?

Hope GWD team is working on this. I got a project due in a few days.

Please share the solution, anyone? Thanks!

Turn on my laptop with airplane mode. GWD is v. 2.0.0

Open the project done in 2.0.3, same error message pops up.
Open old project done before 2.0.3, no error message, seems fine.
Create something randomly in 2.0.0, done everything locally, no error message so far.

Hope this help anyone still have a old copy of GWD in a different computer.

Can GWD team roll back to 2.0.2? I think this is a long weekend holiday for Google.

It appears to be a problem in the latest release that those js files are marked as read-only after a new file is created on Windows. We will work on a fix immediately. In the meantime, you can try setting permission on all files in your project folder to writable to see if it fixes the issue. Please let us know.

This should not affect your banner as you are having the latest files.

Sorry about the issue and thank you for reporting it to us.

Thank you.

In other words, this bug does not affect the performance of the published banner in any way ?

Thanks

It should not affect the published banner. Once we fix the bug, you will need to delete those js and css files so the new ones that are not read-only can be downloaded again on file open. After that, you will always get the latest versions of components to get the bug fixes.

We have just released an update, 2.0.4.0112 that should fix the issue. When you create a new file, there should not be an error when reopening the file.

For documents created in version 2.0.3.0109, please delete the .js and .css files created by Google Web Designer then reopen the author file.

Thank you for reporting the issue to us.

Hi San, I have downloaded the latest version of GWD 2.0.5.0119. I know it isnt supposed work backwards. so i made some new test files, and saved to our server. I added an image, and a tap area. A day later i opened the file and again got more of the same error messages and corrupt files. Permission errors, cant move, copy or delete the files from the server. When opening the file in GWD i get error messages about missing elements. (fyi, when there are multiple error messages they stack over each other so fast and im left with only the last error message. (is there an error report window somewhere?). and in preview, the banner ad wont display images in the browser.

thanks

Hi Jeff,

Can you please turn on verbose logging in Edit > Preferences > Advanced, then quit Google Web Designer, relaunch it. Create a new file on your server (please take a screenshot so we can see the file path), reopen the file to see the error, then quit Google Web Designer and attach browser.log and the screenshot of the file new dialog with the path in this post .

Thanks,

Hi San,
OK, so changed the verbose setting and restarted. Created a new simple test, imported a graphic and added a tap area. saved to our company server where we save our work. See attached "Get info" png. not sure if the permissions look normal to you at this point?

YES, when i opened i got the errors. (see attached screen shot and browser log)

thanks

Hi Jeff,

Do you know when this issue started to happen?

When you do a get info on one of the js or css file created by Google Web Designer, what permission do you see? Or open Terminal and run:
ls -al
and drag the verbosetest folder in Terminal to get the path after al.

i started using GWD back in october 2017. I had no trouble creating anything and it wasnt until weeks later when i started seeing these errors and figured out there was a problem. In December I stopped working off my company server and started saving everything in a dropbox folder. Seems to fix the issue for now. Files saved there seem fine.

attached are get info permissions screen grabs.

Hi Jeff,

We tried a few things with network sharing on the Mac and it seems that spaces in the folder name or file name might cause a problem. Can you please try creating a file in a folder on the network drive without any space?

Hi, Interesting thought.
So yes, in a few of my previous tests, the html file name did have spaces. But in the verbosetest file i made last, that is not the case. However, if i look at the path of the folders where the files are located, many of the nested folders do in fact have spaces. So that could be part of the problem. However, The dropbox folder that i had success with also has folders with spaces in the names. Is this only happening on the server because of the way GWD read/writes to the server... and not the dropbox folder? i will do a test by creating a new location on the server just for this, and the path will contain no spaces. I will let  you know the results.
THANKS

thanks
