Hey all,

What's the latest with this initiative? Can we get an update?

I ask because requests for SIG funding have been somewhat slow. If we need something to kick this in the pants, perhaps that could help.

Thanks,

- C

We are still waiting for a formal response from Celtx.
I'll send them an additional follow-up today and request an update.

Greetings,

Celtx is ready for another 'meeting' either this coming Friday or Monday, anyone have preferences, or particular conflicts?

I can't do either - the next two weeks are particularly bad for me. After that, I'll have much more availability.

(Which isn't to say you guys shouldn't hold the call. I'll catch the next one.)

Best,

Roane

Either day works for me. Earlier Friday would be better than later.

Is anyone attending the Montreal International Game Summit or Festival Arcadia ? Celtx core-users and reps would like to speak with us there. Let me know and I'll forward you the information to set it up.

I've thought about attending MIGS--despite the date and the long trip--
though they don't have any session info up yet, which worries me (and
prevents me from justifying it to my bosses). So right now, I'm
afraid I'm not planning on going to either one.

Is anyone from Celtx going to be at the Austin GDC this year or the
GDC next year?

I'm not sure about Celtx an the GDC. I've proposed to give a short lecture @ GDC09 about the initiative. Celtx apparently will have people @ MIGS and Arcadia, and was looking to connect.

Do you mean Wednesday, the 20th of August? I can make that.

Yes indeed, they couldn't do anything this week.

I can make the 20th at 11 no problem. Thanks for setting this up,
Stephen.

Do we need to prepare anything for the meeting, or is this mainly to
hear their decisions about funding and taking on the development?

It is to talk funding. Coray had mentioned possibilities of WSIG funding so we might want to bring info about that to the table.

Sign me up. If we're talking funding, we should be talking to other groups as well. I know of at least one local shop in NYC who could do this for cheap and give us full distribution rights (if we wanted to make this free for all IGDA members, for example).

I thought we agreed that we shouldn't be providing any funding. Celtx
stands to make a lot of money off of this if they market it well and,
if I'm understanding this correctly, the IGDA cannot share in those
profits, at least not without jumping through a lot of legal hoops.

We have the expertise, experience and connections to help them make
this _the_ killer game writing application. They have a solid platform
upon which to build, the coding expertise, and a desire to grow their
market. They really shouldn't be asking us for money as we are not
their exclusive client.

Correct, they shouldn't. No argument there at all.

But if they are asking for funding, our goal is to provide value to our members, and we should consider the cost/benefit ratio of working with Celtx or another dev shop to make something that a lot of writers could get value out of.

I agree that if Celtx is stuck on the idea of leveraging us for a cash
infusion, that we should put out a very public RFP and make sure the
right people know about it.

I'm all about comparison shopping when it doesn't involve going to the mall. ;)

Hmm...free writing tool for all IGDA members. Them's good additional membership benefits.

I agree we bring plenty to the table for a strong partnership. If they want funding from us, a public RFP would be a great way to go (RFP: takes me back to my government employee days).

Ah, crud. I neglected to put this on my calendar. I'll do my best to
be there. Ron, could you send me the call info? Thanks.
