I've taken Stephen's suggestion and drawn up a list of what we can
offer Celtx (and what we need from them) in an IGDA-Celtx
partnership. I used the same format he drew up for the Design Doc.
The idea is to use this list as a starting point to clarify what the
partnership will entail.

I've uploaded the document to the FIles section under
Celtx_Partnership_v1_0.rtf.

Give it a read, and let the comments begin!

Looks very solid. More importantly, I think the document gives us a solid place with which to resume discussions with Celtx.

Well done!

Awesome doc. Definitely specs things out nicely.

I think we could expand a bit on the categories of what we're offering them, which is pretty sizeable, imo. Tried to make it a little more sales-pitchy:
  1. Critical Mass User Base
  2. Game Educator Connections
  3. Official IGDA Endorsement
  4. Co-Branding and Marketing
  5. Customer-based Requirements
  6. User Testing
  7. User Documentation Assistance
  8. Fundraising Assistance
We might consider holding the last item off the initial list as a bargaining chip.

Also, is Celtx going to be selling this product? If so, I would definitely, DEFINITELY remove fundraising assistance from this list.

Great job Ron. Thanks for putting this together!

Thanks for the comments, Coray. I've incorporated your changes into
the doc.

I don't know what Celtx's business model is. I know their current
software is free (as in speech and as in beer) to download and use
without restrictions. They may make money off of some form of
"premium web services" on the back end, but I'm not sure.

Should I take the "Fundraising Assistance" item off the doc until we
meet with Celtx again and ask them directly about their business
model?

Great timing too. I just got word from Celtx that they are ready for another conference call.
I'm setting it up for Friday; will forward details.

Might be rough for those yanks going away for the 4th. Will do my best to make it though.

Maybe we could position the core script package as an open source release and suggest they do some of the more advanced stuff (dialog branching for example) as a premium release?

Friday is a no-go for me, but I don't mind.

I don't believe they are allowed, by the terms of the Mozilla license,
to produce anything based on this code that isn't open source. We'd be
better off helping them find ways to monetize the service side of
things. Currently they make their money by offering collaborative web
services, storage space, etc.

I can  make the 4th. I'll be at home, smelling the BBQ, so I don't know how focused I'll be, but I can make it.

I can make the 4th, but only if it's before 11:00 am CST or after 2:00
pm CST.

Should we wait for Monday to have better attendance on our end?

I just realized how unAmerican I've become as a resident alien in the strange northland.
No meeting on the 4th guys, my bad, I rescedule for next week.

Awesome,

It's an extra feature offered through a 3rd party:
http://www.premiereglobal.com/conferencing/web-conferencing/netspoke/demos-and-trials.asp

Though I had signed up for through the Adobe Connect Trial.

The web features where not used on our last call.

Gotcha, thanks for the link.

I signed up for their free trial and this is the info they gave me:
Participant Passcode: 542067
Dial-in Numbers:
Toll free: 1-866-910-4857

I assume we can just dial in at 11? Or did you have to schedule the
meeting with Premiere Global?

Hey guys,
Sorry I had to cut out early but I appreciate the opportunity to be
part of the call. I will also commend the professionalism involved.
Ron and Stephen, I feel like we're in good hands with you two at the
helm. I look forward to reading the minutes from the call.

Ron did a great job of presenting the Collaboration perspective we created.
The good news is Celtx continues to express excited interest in our potential partnership.
The bad news is Celtx isn't convinced of the funding of this project, and that's were we as a group need to brainstorm. From Celtx perspective this product could take a couple of years to build, and their private funding might not cover it. They will get back to us in a week or so about how they see moving forward.

I like to be aggressive in business myself and think we need some ideas for getting funding for this project from industry insiders, as a way to further convince Celtx and get our tool made.

Ideas?

Stephen

Probably a first step is to take it to the SIG and look for insiders who would be willing to consider championing the cause at their respective companies.
