Hey guys. Check out the email I received about murder ball below. Considering that we are the only club on campus that doesn't volunteer (hard to believe), this would be an easy and fun way to get the hours that we need. It's from 8:30-2 pm on Sunday. It will be a mandatory event. If we get 30 guys out, there's 150 volunteer hours for our club.
This isn't me trying to piss a lot of people off by signing up for the morning. Fact is the school hates us because we don't do things like this. So this will help out all the current guys that will be back next year.
I'll talk more about it at practice

Cheers
Cody

Hi Cody,

Great! I am excited you guys are willing to help out.  We currently don't have a set game schedule but our shifts generally go from 8:00am-2:00pm and 1:00pm-7:00pm on Saturday and 8:30am-2:00pm on Sunday.

Grand Rapids Thunder was part of an organization called Grand Rapids Wheelchair Sports until it was recently absorbed by Mary Free Bed's new adapted sports program. Because of that, Mary Free Bed wants us to prove that we can be the "go-to" program for wheelchair rugby in the nation.  So that means this tournament has to be as flawless as possible and I am trying to get as many hands on deck as I can.

Volunteer duties typically include:
  • Working shot clocks
  • Score keeping
  • Selling apparel
  • Working the food table
  • Assisting Athletes
  • Manning the penalty box

This year we will be stepping it up even further.  We want people outside waiting for athletes arriving in the parking lot to help them unload if they need it.  We want people in the stands cheering the athletes on.  We don't want anyone to have to wait for help.  We will take as many volunteers as we can get!!

Also, if your club is interested in helping us raise funds to offset the cost of the season, I would love to throw in a pick-up game in the tournament schedule as a thank you.  The fundraiser does not necessarily have to be done before the tournament, but if you guys are even interested let me know and I will schedule some time into the tournament for you to experience some Murderball for yourselves.
You can have volunteers contact me directly or you can send me a list of people who are interested and I will contact them.

Let me know if you have anymore questions!
Thanks,
Maggie

Fellas,

This is a great opportunity for us to knock out some of the service hours required by our club. Let's have a good turn out. See you all at practice.

I will be at a wedding on the eastside this weekend but if/when I make it back to GR on Sunday I will be there whenever I can.
