The Evergreen Cemetery Walk is a nationally recognized, award-winning annual event that brings the voices of McLean County's history to life. It is a collaboration between the McLean County Museum of History, Illinois Voices Theatre, and Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, and serves about 3,000 people annually, most of whom are students.
Each year, costumed actors portray people from McLean County's past on the grounds of Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Their stories illustrate the impact the people of McLean County have had locally, nationally, and even internationally. Volunteer tour guides lead groups through the cemetery and share the history of the cemetery, funerary customs, and introduce the characters.
The Evergreen Cemetery Walk is about one mile in distance and lasts approximately two hours. Participants are standing and walking the entire time, and the Walk continues rain or shine, heat or cold. Keep this in mind when deciding whether to participate in our in-person or online event. So put on your walking shoes, or gather around the TV, and bring your family to participate in this fascinating, outdoor theatrical program!
Over the years, the Evergreen Cemetery Walk grew into an award-winning, nationally recognized interpretive program. It is often referred to as the "granddaddy" of all cemetery walks. Every year we bring the voices of McLean County's history to life. Costumed actors portray individuals representing all walks of life from the county's past on the beautiful grounds of Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
During the COVID-19 pandemic the Walk was forced to navigate some major challenges. In 2020 we were forced to go fully remote, and in 2021 we went hybrid, with an in-person walk with reduced capacity and a virtual video option. We are proud that we were able to meet those challenges head on and continued to host the Walk. In fact, the addition of a virtual option has allowed for a new audience, who previously were unable to due to barriers such as mobility or geography, to enjoy the Walk.
Because of all of this, the Evergreen Cemetery Walk is better than ever. We plan to continue to provide a live in-person Walk in conjunction with a pre-recorded online video. Thank you to our partner Broadleaf Video Management for helping us present a quality virtual production.

I am Divya Goel, an Architect and an Interior Designer from Delhi, India. Got my degree in Architecture from Dehradun and now landed in Kingston, the UK to pursue Animation. I would like to unfold my unusual journey and the challenges I will be facing during the course ( thinking about my reason behind switching to animation ? : p ). Being blessed with a creative bent of mind has always been a trait that I truly cherish. I have always been fond of creating and developing things through sketching, painting, or even model-making. An example of my 3- d sketches before graduation.
Just a pencil sketch with some acrylic colors and charcoal pencil shading. Keeping pace with the emerging innovations that take place around us, I often used to doodle sketches that I made. This digitalization allured me to explore this fascinating realm in great detail. Thus, after considerable deliberation, I took up this course.
I also worked in some big architectural and interior design organizations like the Airports Authority of India and Studio Praxis. I acquired some in-depth understanding of planning, designing, and constructing buildings or other structures. Some of my work examples are down below :
During my tenure, as per the requirement of the client, I had to depict digital versions of my plans and while working on three-dimensional projects and walkthroughs, I decided to use my creative mind and architectural skillset to acquire knowledge in the domain of computer animation and graphics through a specialized program. I will be able to build some extensive modeling techniques and also use my software knowledge in filmmaking. I will be learning modules like :
After completing this course, I would like to work in several areas like films, animated features, television production, virtual environments, and interactive media. I am assured that this course will be a stepping stone towards achieving my future goals and will help me find lucrative opportunities.
Belonging to an architectural background becoming familiar with and grasping the concepts of the animation does not seem to be easy. But the determination and zeal to attain a great knowledge of animation are helping me to somehow start with the concepts of Maya.
Before talking about the concepts taught in our first class I would like to discuss the tutorials that were being shared by our course leader "Richard Cunningham " such as learning about 12 principles of animation, learning about keyframes, extremes, breakdowns. But I liked the concepts of animation being discussed in the book called The illusion of life. All these gave me a brief idea of the process that goes in while animating a character or a walk cycle.
Progression with Nuke x can be viewed here Perfecting the look. Starting of the class went all about getting familiar with the canvas interface and getting through the sections and facilities that we do have access to via canvas and we also got to know about the Maya interface and incorporating the 12 principles of animation in our projects.
So, that will take some time to enhance my skills, as this is very new to me, so I started with working on bouncing ball animation which took me around 40 minutes to get it right. But, I got tired a little bit by editing the curves in the graph editor at each step and perfecting the arcs to get the right kind of animation ball. I will be attaching my animation ball progress here till I get to learn about Playblast : p.
Learning to insert the links to my assignments in my blog and perfecting the video animation workshop assignments to move further to my assignments and yeah discussing my topics with my course leader as well.
So, It was really hard for me to achieve my targets by the end of this week because of two main reasons: Firstly, because I could not go to the offline classes because of the lockdown situation in the UK and Secondly, I had to compete with the speed and accuracy of my classmates who already had a wide range of experience in the field. But, with my zeal and enthusiasm, I somehow managed to complete all my 5 animation workshops by the end of week 1.
So, after following the video tutorial provided by our course leader Richard Cunningham and watching the video again and again I got to get the brief of it and also introspect his key points closely. Although it was not easy for me at all as I animated in Maya for the very first time I watched the Tutorial closely and somehow managed to create all of my animations successfully. To be honest I wasn't really satisfied with my first animations and faced a lot of challenges in incorporating the principles of animation in practical animation but I tried to improve myself as I move forward with each animation. You can find all of my video compilation of Workshop 1 assignments here.
Incorporating the 12 principles of animation at each step and visualizing the movement of the ball with it was a bit of a challenge for me. I also referred to quite a few youtube videos for strengthening my visualization process. You can find some of them here.
I learned to reference my files, setting the project for the directories, and also learned to export the video files in Playblast. But, the tween machine feature was still a struggle so I didn't use that in this workshop and I tried to do some more simple animations with it. In the end, I got feedback on my first animation by my Course leader on which I will be working by another week. So, these are the feedbacks I got on some of the mistakes I did.
Working on Tween Machine more often to Understand its use more accurately. I have to look for models for my assignment project and finalize that to start working on it. I also have to start working on my next assignment and do the same thing with that as well.
This week I learned some more things in the sessions to enhance my animation videos by incorporating those features into my animation. I got to know some hotkeys to change the background color of the screen and I also tried to use tweenMachine more often to get used to it and understand its features. I also learned how to playblast my videos, an example of which has been shown above. So, this week started by working on Timing and Spacing more often and understanding its features and role in Animation. So, I would like to share with you two videos that give a brief idea of the concept behind Timing and Spacing and also talks about the mistakes we do while incorporating it. I would be attaching those below.
We also tried different poses and character animation this week by experimenting with different emotions, taking reference from the poses sheet provided in the canvas, and referred to some 3d character emotions on Pinterest. The images can be found below along with the animation. Which will be compiled as a whole on youtube and will be uploaded soon.
I would like to add up this session to talk about my career goals. Everybody has their own set of goals and the dream companies where they look themselves in the next coming years and like any other individual I have looked up to some organizations and having them in my mind I follow them religiously to reach there at some point of my career and also to take inspiration from them. Since, something that really attracts me as working for films, I want to put in my best works The companies are as follows:
