I have recently had a rebuilt Falcone engine. The clutch works and the gears will go up and down the box no issues BUT once I have started the engine the gears do not want to in (horrible crash sound). I’m at a loss. Any ideas please

Here is a slighted edited copy of a reply I sent to Patrick today,
*************************
Back on June 1 I was doing a giro bike ride with Barry, Jason and Al. It was a two day affair and I was riding my Morini Tresette Sprint. In the afternoon on the way back to Santa Cruz I had a near head on with a debris truck on a narrow section of Summit Rd.
A blind right hander. I swerved into the ditch and was thinking I had made it past, just had to ride out the off road bit but felt the truck hit the back of my bike. It spun me around and planted my face firmly into the door of the truck. It was a "small"
1 ton? With a forward cab. I think the foot step in front of the front wheel hit my ankle breaking it. My right eye brow had a cut that would take a few stiches, I broke a rib and my right hand was pinned after the fall, still holding the grip.
I was real lucky. I think just a moment sooner or later and it would have been a full head on. Fortunately I didn't get spun under the truck and other than the blood from my eye brow, I questioned whether I needed an ambulance. Didn't feel the broken ankle or rib with my big concern being my eye.
Recovery was a little tough. I had swelling and developed fracture blisters which postponed any surgery. After the second week my doctor said we had a couple of options. One was to wait for the swelling to go down more and the skin to heal enough to take suturing or let it heal without plates and screws. I wasn't to keen on the addition of metal and asked for her recommendation. She thought the natural healing was the best course and I agreed.
I never really felt the broken rib. The trauma folks at Valley Medical were concerned it could lead to pneumonia but it was fine. They were worried about bleeding behind or inside my eye which they couldn't check because my eye was so swollen shut. I was worried about losing it for a few days until the swelling went down enough to start seeing light and shadows. It was ugly.
So, it's been a couple of months of using wheel chair and knee rover, graduating to the rover and crutches. My first day back at work was Thursday and over the weekend I started taking a step or two kind of resembling walking. My right thumb is stiff but I can still grab a throttle, the horrendous bruising in my right eye and cheek ran down my neck and is gone. Oddly, not one mark on my helmet or visor. I cleaned the blood out and can feel a deformation in the forehead liner but from the outside, it's perfect. I took the helmet and jacket off at the scene knowing it would be cut off by the paramedics but they did cut my pants. Grrrr.... !
Got my new helmet on Friday, another AGV, and trying to find some RST pants in my size. I found some with knee sliders but we don't ride like that. 😊
Be careful out there. Sometimes just because we aren’t riding hard with our hair on fire we think we are safe. Remember if there is an accident, when you are on a bike chances are you will be the one getting hurt.

Good job it wasn't open face. I was knocked off 14 years ago and lost the sight in one eye. If I hadn't been wearing a full- faced helmet I would've lost my face, no question. It cured me of open face helmets😂

Hoo Rah!
I’m on a 70 and older Facebook group and I’m amazed how many of these guys are riding big Harleys and liter plus bikes. I still have my Hypermotard 1100 but gone are my Bimota DB2 and Ducati 750F1. I do really regret selling the F1 because it was still a small
light bike but the sale is another story unto itself. Encouraged by fellow list member Barry Porter, I got into the small Giro sized bikes and they are a ton of fun (still dangerous though).
😊
I’m short so It’s helpful to be able to touch feet on both sides and rolling them around the shop is easy. My “big” bikes now start with my BSA Rocker Gold Star and I have a 500 Morini Strada. These two bikes feel very similar in performance and handling. They
are both a pleasure to ride and don’t need to be pushed to get that enjoyment. Next is my GTV which is different with its girder fork and an entirely different experience. Small bikes forever!

Hello Rick,
Sorry to hear about your crash. I'm glad that your injuries were not too serious and that you are on the mend.
Now that I am well into geezerdom, my riding style is evolving. The big bikes and the sportier models have found new homes. My rides have become shorter and the old 'slicers fit my riding style much better. A few years ago, just after I sold my Morini 500, I pitched up at our regular Italian bike night on a 1950 Astore. The lads gave me a hard time and said I was riding an "old man's bike". "Guess what', I responded, "I am an old man, and so are most of you". The important thing is that I am still riding.
