I want to remove the suspension springs from my GTS. I tried unscrewing the slotted 'nuts' at the front  of the tubes but they aren't undoing. Is it  possible to remove  the complete unit  from the bike without  dismantling anything else? My reason for this is the springing is way too soft so I reckon they're  the wrong ones. All suggestions appreciated, thanks guys.

Hi Jerry,
I don't know how similar the GTS is to the later Astore ?

Try putting new discs in your friction dampers and tighten them up a little more. If the bike settles when you sit on it and is slow to recover when you stand, then maybe the springs are a bit stretched out.
I have never had to remove the rear suspension unit or the springs, so I cannot give any advice on how to proceed or how to check the springs for length for tension.

Thanks John, so it's not a 10 minute job! I have the excellent GTV translation by Patrick and Shawn but that shows a complete dismantling of the frame.
Hi Alan, I know it  never  had the  right  springs fitted during rebuild so my mission is to get something in there that works a bit more like it should.

I sussed the spring  removal. First thing, there's a spacer missing but I don't know if the rest  of the assembly is correct.IMG_6425.jpg.

Check the parts books. They usually have the correct assembly sequences in the diagrams. 'Usually'.
