Hi all,

I've put a few hundred miles on my superalce this summer and starting to think about some jobs that need doing, one of which trying to find out where some of the oil is escaping, pretty much sure it badly wet sumps when parked so going to fit a tap.

The other area is around the head, after a long ride there is a lot of oil around the rocker box and the gets blown over the rest of the barrel etc and suspension spring cover.

Couldn't easily.work out from the Italian parts diagram if there are seals in the rocker box where arms fit or if it's just bushes, have attached a picture.

Any advice on how to approach this?

Rust prevention. Its a feature, not a bug! :-)

Yes, there are felt discs and custom, flat, thin washers in the rocker
box which are intended to keep oil inside. Crude. You could replace
the felts but its hard to find the correct thickness and diameter.

The same rocker box is on the older GTV/GTW. I know someone who bored
out the area and installed modern, rubber-lipped seals.

There are numerous felt seals on this motor. Any excessive pressure
inside the crankcase tends to push oil past the felts. Excessive
combustion blow by past the piston rings can lead to pushing lots of oil
mist out.

Patrick,

Thanks so much for the information and very helpful docs and pics you sent - so much more useful than the parts catalogue diagram!

I'll try guzzi retro to see if I can get some spares and see if that makes a difference, this one looks like it's not been apart for decades so it might be time to go further and check piston and rings for wear etc

Do you know where best option for replacement rings etc might be?

Also I'm in Somerset in the UK

Thanks again
