Hi Chris,

That looks like a fine Sport 15 you got yourself there. Can't wait to see it person

The grease cup for lubing the exhaust valve is missing which seems to be the only thing that prevents using the bike. Has a few incorrect items and has lots of "Patina"
The photo is from a few years ago and it looks a little older now.
Already in touch with a few of you that I know from the other Guzzi worlds. Hope this group is just a warm and helpful as those.

Instruction manual:   http://www.rpw.it/Files/Guzzi_Istruzioni1931.pdf
grease cups -  McMaster-Carr #1112K44  will look OK.  This one is 1 oz but they have smaller and larger ones.
Parts manual  Probably not too different from a 14 or a 16.  The 17 is a 3 speed tank shift, but with a swing arm.  All these bikes have many interchangeable parts.  I have a parts manual for a 1935 type "S" .  Not much different than the others.

Hi Chris,
Congratulations on the terrific find, The Sport 15 looks quite similar to the '37 500S that should be landed in my garage before the end of May. I expect that I will be opening up this bike in the next few weeks and will no doubt be looking for the parts and information that will be needed to return this Guzzi to service. I will be pleased to trade notes and share resources as the project moves forward.

Good luck with it. Don't drive it through any high water, Ha! Ha!
I bought a 1100 Sport style timing case for the "Saturday Morning Bomber", this will help move it along to completion.

Rick, sometime the word patina just does not do it. I have a 1937
Moto Guzzi GTW that is exactly as I found it, abandoned in a dealers
back yard in Italy, in 1972; it runs fine but the engine is tired. In my
case the appropriate word is "crust".

Got some papers from Italy for registration dates circa early 60's. That's about it, though I do know who the last 2 owners were. Not sure when it was imported but do have a good Texas title.
Anyone ever seen a front fender like this one before? Seller called it an "elephant ear". It seems to be OEM as the paint all matches.

This year the AMCA meet in Davenport is looking for scooters and minis. I don't know how many Gallettos are in the country but it would be nice to lots of Guzzi singles there strutting between the Indians and Harleys. I have never been but I'm thinking of going this year. Anyone else going?

Ok kidding aside. We did notice some lugs/holes that were in the frame castings that look like they could have been used as sidecar attachments. Anybody know if that is what they were for?

Unfortunately, the last set of rules cut off at pre-1930. The Sport-15

You'd have to be able to specifically document the frame as pre-30. Not

Yes. 1936 does open it to the first year Knucklehead and the last year non-recirculating VL flatheads. I would be surprised if we see any 1936 ELs on the ride. But you never know. Also the older the bike is the better it scores in case of ties or similar miles in total.

You are correct; the 3 lugs, namely under the steering head, under the
saddle, and by the rear hub
were intended for sidecar mounting. I do have a Sport 15 with Sidecar.
Oddly enough the sidecar
was supposed to be mounted on the left side of the bike.

Why not; I think the Knuckleheads are arguably the best looking of all HD engines.

They are also incredibly reliable, you can do so much to them and keep them stock.  Arguably the EL is absolutely gorgeous.

But I fear it puts many people that might have a Bianchi or other special and more obscure brand at a disadvantage, more so than if they were competing against flatheads, or JDs, for example

1936 EL Knucklehead is one of my favorites. Here is a photo of mine, which I obviously ride year round.

I do not think it is really about the competition. In my view, any bike and rider that finishes the Cannonball is worthy of note. I have the most admiration for the riders who are able to make repairs along the way and still finish the run. A special hats off goes to those who help their fellow riders stay in the running.

Alan Comfort - agreed. On both rides I helped and was helped by other riders.

I got a lot more help than I gave - but not out of desire.

OK getting into it a little. Need to get lights functioning to ride it on the street, legally.
Found the wiring diagram on Benders site. Someone cut 5 of 6 wires off just above the Dynamo so harness is trash. No battery tray on this one,,, THen it seems the headlight may not be original, maybe a bit later 30's or early 40's but it has an indicator (red) bulb in the shell as well as a fuse holder on the other side of where the key goes in. access to the fuse is a slotted screw outside the shell. Headlight lens does not have the hole for the "city" light, thought the bulb holder and shell have it. Headlight and City light should mount into the lens and then touch blade contacts in the shell when you mount up the lens and ring.  Tail light is definitely not stock and missing lens. Have a 30's auto taillight I can use for now. Horn is totally not there.
So my plan is to just get something to work enough to ride it using a total loss system temporarily.
Will get some picture posted and maybe we can ID this headlight and taillight.
