Whelp, I just “had to” get another weird Guzzi…. A very original 1971 Nuovo Falcone Carabinieri. I know the Nuovo isn’t as collectible as the earlier singles but I’m a sucker for Guzzi police bikes (also have a ‘67 Falcone NT Stradale and a ‘74 Eldo LAPD). Can anyone help me figure out what the spring loaded mount inside the left side metal pannier is? I’m assuming for some kind of police equipment but can’t figure out what. Fire extinguisher? Tire pump? Any ideas? Pics attached.
Thanks!

Sweet bike. Well done! My first guess is that the clamping bracket is meant for a fire extinguisher. But it is just a guess.

maybe where the ticket book is fastened down  ........ some kind of holder for something? I have what might be the same metal panniers on my V700 Police replica but no holder like that.

Looks like it would hold a side arm.

Hi Tim,
Your V700 is beautiful!!

Update on my spring loaded mount question:  I found a picture of the mount on a Guzzi site and it says the mount was to hold a Beretta PM12 sub machine gun (pic attached).  This seems correct looking at the picture.  It would have been mounted upside down and facing the rear (with the folding stock closed).  The tip of the barrel would slide into the hole in the rear of the mount and the spring loaded clamp would act on the hand grip to hold the gun securely.
