Couple of questions on Falcone engine

I am trying to split the engine casing on my Falcone, can someone advise how I can remove the castellated part which is part of the kick start ratchet so that I can remove the sprocket behind , does it unscrew, if so is it LH or RH.

I also want to remove the clutch plate shown in the second photo with the nut still in place. I have loosened the nut and can remove that but I can't seem to move the plate, is it on a taper? I need to split the casing to change the crankshaft bearings.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Tim, does it just slide off then?, I have had considerable pressure on it with a puller and it has not budged.

STOP!!!!
You are about to do something bad.

First, your first picture shows the right side with four slot nut
holding the kick ratchet and the chain pinion sprocket. That nut is
standard threaded. Likely you will need some impact to loosen it. You
will need to lock the sprocket or kick gear and use an air wrench or a
hammer to shock it loose. After that nut, the kick mechanism comes off
and then you'll find another, thinner four slot nut holding the
sprocket. Careful, the nut holding the sprocket is held in place and
kept from rotating loose by a simple grub screw in one of the four nut
slots. You have to remove that screw before you try to loosen that
second four-slot nut. The sprocket just slides off and you're ready to
split cases.

(Just for installation note. The nut holding the sprocket has FOUR
slots. The sprocket itself has FIVE threaded holes. When you tighten
the nut observe which of the four slots comes closest to aligning with
which of the five holes. Try to tighten a little more to get full
alignment so that you can reinstall the screw. If necessary, and you
can't tighten for hole alignment then you might have to loosen the nut
rather than tighten. Once the grub screw is installed, try to loosen
the nut so that it jams and locks the screw.)

Second, DO NOT try to remove that clutch plate. It does not impede
splitting he cases. Yes, that plate is on a taper on the shaft. It
must be absolutely square to the shaft or else the plate wobbles and you
get very bad clutch action. You do have to split those parts if you
want to change transmission bearings but not for your planned project.
Put the nut back on and lock it down tight. The shaft and plate will
remain in the left half of the casing as you split the motor. If you
ever have to split those clutch plate/shaft parts, it is done AFTER the
cases are split so that you can support the inner side of the plate
while pressing the shaft out of it.

Hi Patrick, thank you for your advice, I have put the nut back on the clutch plate. When I removed the clutch plates, I found the nut loose!
Regarding the kick start ratchet, this is the part that will not come off. For clarity, are you saying I need to make a castellated socket to fit the nut on the ratchet and use an impact gun to loosen it? If so then it makes sense to me and should then be a straight forward job.
In reply to your previous message, I do have the parts list with the exploded drawings, however even when I zoomed in, I could not see exactly how the parts fit together. Your explanation makes sense. It is not obvious from the exploded drawings that there is a thread on the shaft. I do not have an English worded manual that explains what you have said.
Thanks again for the advice.

Hi All,
Re the kickstart ratchet side, there is a grubscrew , from memory locking the sprocket??? It was 6 years ago since I looked in there!!
Where has that time gone????

In my case I saw the grubscrew loose and really did not know or want to go in any deeper than needed,
I cut / modified an Allen key to tighten the grubscrew

Patrick: I think you managed to get your Falcone cases split apart. We
had discussed a special grub screw which locks the front sprocket onto
the output shaft. I finally found my picture of said pieces in normal
assembly. Note that the sprocket has 5 holes but the locking nut only
has four notches. This works somewhat like a Vernier instrument. When
you tighten the outer nut, one of the notches will inevitably be very
close to one of the holes in the sprocket. Work a little harder to get
alignment and then install the grub screw.
