Hi, after owning a number of Guzzi V twins I've recently purchased a Lodola 175 which is in need of a complete rebuild. I was wondering if anyone can point me towards an english translation of a workshop manual. Thanks Doug

Not sure one exists. I have the parts, restoration, and user manuals
but they are all in Italian. The 235 manual is in English. Perhaps
some of that is consistent between the models. I have all the manuals
on CD if you want a copy. I just need a postal address.

Also, there are several people on this list who speak Italian as a first
language. If you have some question or confusion, just type an Italian
paragraph or two and someone will offer a precise translation.

Hi Doug

I am not aware that such a thing exists.  If I can find all the copies, Bryan Peck of the Guzzi Club GB, did write a serial feature in the Guzzi club mag about 5 years ago on how to rebuild a Lodola.  I must find the articles and scan it for distribution as others have been asking for the same.
They are not that complicated bikes, I rebuilt my Stornello using the Italian manual for the pictures and tech specs.
Am I right in thinking you are in the UK and a member of the Guzzi club?
Adam Bolton, of Italian motor Magazine fame is also quite knowledgeable  on the Lodola models.

Hi Don and thanks for the reply, yes I am in the UK and I bought the bike as a basket case off Adam a couple of days ago. I still have lots of back copies of the club mag, I'll have to dig them out and find the article by Bryan.

Hi Pete, is the English manual available anywhere on this site (or similar)? I'd find it helpful too..

One thing I have found is that using some translation software or app and a bit of imagination it becomes easier and easier to get a decent translation in your own mind. The Latin roots run throughout our languages. I have to admit though, some of it doesn’t make sense and is downright funny!

Not sure if anyone would like this info but I edit Gambalunga (the MGCGB magazine) and can offer PDFs of Bryan's articles.

Hi Roger,

I am in the US and about to start the rebuild of my 1957 175 Lodola, which is in parts and would, very much, appreciate PDF's of Bryan's articles on the Lodola. If via post let me know how and how much, and if by email, please sign me up.

Many thanks,

I could use shop info in English , ready to pay if there is any out there.... Anyone know what years they made the Lodola 175 sport ? My frame is LFB56 the engine is LFB 68 . I have had my eyes on the bike since about 1976 , no engine change in that time frame...any thoughts ?

If you belong to or join the Moto Guzzi Club GB we can offer an english language handbook (not the shop manual, however). Pretty useful, though

According to the Mick Walker book Moto Guzzi Singles, the 175 Lodola with 9hp@6000rpm was produced 1956-1958, the 175 Sport with 11hp@6500rpm 1958-1959 and the 235 with 11hp@6000rpm 1959-1966.
You used to be able to contact the Museum at the factory for dating, but no more. Apparently the Moto Guzzi Club GB can date it for you, on a pay as you go basis or by joining the club.
I've had a 175 and a 235 for a number of years and just get by with the Italian manuals and Google Translate, as well as posing questions to the list, they're remarkably simple and easy to work on. Compared to it's predecessor, the Airone, I refer to the Lodola as the Italian Honda. I find the parts manual as handy as anything for understanding what's what and how things come apart and go together. There is a 235 Owners manual in English from Books 4 Cars in the US, which is a good reference for everything but the 175 engine particulars.
Good luck,
Best,
Mike Peavey

Yes, if you need a machine dating letter for the UK DVLA, the MGCGB can do this - well worth joining for a year! Look at the cover of our last magazine.
