It looks great, but I wonder if have they done anything to boost the performance to match the looks?
I'm in the middle of rebuilding a 4 speed Stornello engine and wonder if there is any ways to boost the performance a bit?  I have heard they can be bored out to take a Galletto piston.

Don, take a look at what mg did with the ISDT engine.  They almost doubled the horsepower.  Larger carb and raised compression, not sure what else they did ???
Rick may be able to shed some light on that too…..

They didn't do a lot to the Regolarita. I think the standard Stornello got about 7.5 hp. The Rego got about 11. Bigger carb and the Sport piston. Valves and I believe even the cam was the same. They also had the flat Six Days muffler, I think commonly called a Lozenge Muffler. The gearing and clutch actuating system are different. I was going to transplant my Rego engine into my Giro bike but looking at the gear ratios I decided against it. I might still try it, or just set up my Rego for the street.
The bike in the photos I posted is a 5-speed 160. I would love to find one of those but as far as I know they were never imported to the US and shipping one over is probably not worth the expense. They seem to be rare even in Italy as I rarely see any for sale anyway. I also get the idea that there was a 5-speed 125 but maybe not.
I may be adding to my Giro fleet this week. A 175 Moto Morini. Supposed to be turn key which is good because I still have this Mondial that I need to split cases on. LOL!

Thanks Rick

The 1970's 5 speed models are fairly common in Italy and come up occasionally in the UK.  I have had 2 of them, both the 125cc 5 speed versions.  I sold on one, the other, I have made into a green laner type bike, based on the Stornello Scrambler, see attached photo.  This one goes reasonably well out on the road.

That's a fun looking bike. That has the clutch actuator more like the ISDT. The cable goes across the engine. My America has the cable entering the crankcase below the cylinder and longitudinal to the case halves.

Guzzi modified the clutch mechanism when they changed to the 5 speed version in 1970.  The right hand cover from my bike is actually off an earlier 4 speed bike and has been cut down, it originally had the squarer one fitted like your original photos of the cafe racer bike.

Don, it happened before that. Here is, sorry about the condition of the bike, my ISDT. It is a 1968(?) 125 4-speed versus the 1965 Sport America.
