Fellow Guzzistas:

A week or two ago we were discussing the technique for starting a 'slicer without a compression release. Here is a short demo of the technique:

I find that this method is very reliable for both hot and cold starts. The magneto on my Falcone has an auto advance. If your magneto has a manual advance, be sure to retard the spark. About half way should do it. I use the enrichening valve for cold starts and keep it closed for warm starts. No throttle opening is needed on this bike, but others may require a slight throttle opening.

A bit of practice and learning the idiosyncrasies of your own bike will make this technique quite useful.

Questions and comments welcome.

It took me a while to get the right spot but once I did, it’s great. Mine is a poor starter from cold but this method is certainly more efficient. Less work on old knees.

Thank you for the feed back. I am happy that this technique is a benefit for you.
Poor starter, you say? Try using a non-resistor spark plug if you have not already done so. And make sure the spark plug cap is the non-resistor type.
