For relining shoes I’ve been happy with Vintage Brake I think they are in Sonora, CA. Speed and Sport in Meadow Vista, CA also does relining.

I am also in need of a toolbox key for my recently acquired 1955 Falcone Tourismo.  Those boxes just want to be opened to disclose their contents.  Wheels off for tubes, tires and brake work.  Any hints on brake restoration sources?20210912_170723.jpg

Jim,

I do not have a spare, but I can make one for you in about 10 minutes, It won't be pretty, but it will do the trick. Send me your mailing address and I'll put it in the mail. Alternatively, if you can find an old-fashioned skeleton key it can be easily modified to open your tool boxes.

Does anyone have an extra tool box key they would part with?

My Airone is missing the key and without it I can't get the tool boxes unbolted from the rear fender, tried picking the lock but can't get the tumbler to rotate enough to open.

Thanks

You also need to arc-cut the new shoe linings. That has to be done with
the shoes mounted into the backing plate for proper arc.

Vintage Brake can do that. It requires sending them the complete wheel laced, tensioned and trued.
I had them do the shoes for my MX bike decades ago. Arced the linings myself by hand using files and rasps. Took a while but it came out well.

Agree think the shoes fitted need to be larger in diameter than the drum and then machined back to the drum size minus a small amount. If not then doubt if the contact area is anywhere near what it should be. Which is why many make a noise but not much else. Often thought that wear on the pivot point either pin or shoes would be detrimental to performance but not seen anyone mention this?
