Recommend tools and supplies to carry on a 100 mile ride on a Lodola 235.  Thanks for your advice.  Frank Lineberry

Cell phone, credit card, $100 cash.

Once you start contemplating mechanical failures and needed tools, there
is no end in sight. You could take 25 pounds of tools in a kit and your
breakdown might require the one thing you don't have. Keep the bike in
good order, enjoy the ride, have the ability to bail out and get it
stored until you can retrieve it or have it towed home.

I take I spark plug and plug spanner , 1 adjustable spanner,  1 pocket screwdriver with 4 interchangeable bits, pair fine nose pliers, and if room, one pressure can of that latex tyre repair/inflator stuff. It’s pretty hopeless with tube type tyres but may get you to next stop or home. Tube is useless afterwards though. And a mobile phone.

I’ve also got a spare clutch cable inner rolled up and stored somewhere on bike.  It’s got a fixed correct nipple at lever end and a solderless screw- up one at the bottom. I feed it through the inner from the bar end and then put on the solderless nipple.

I’ve got home without a throttle cable at 20 mph by screwing the carb throttle (slide, or ‘idle’ stop up to max, ) but without a clutch cable you are jiggered unless you are a real hero.

Is this a trick question? LOL!
I like both Patrick's and Andrew's answers. There really is no correct answer and a lot depends on where you will be during your ride. For me the cell phone has replaced a need for most/many tools. If you have a tankbag or panniers definitely take a bottle of water. Especially this time of year and try to stay hydrated while you ride. A lightly salted snack will help you retain water too.
100 miles isn't really that far. Like Patrick alludes to if you don't think you can run 100 miles without planning on something failing, you need to do some work on your bike. Around the SF Bay Area too, 100 miles on the odometer means you're never more than around 25-30 from home or base camp. Know where your loading ramp and tiedowns are, so if you have to call a friend with a truck or trailer, you can tell him where to find them.
As to actual tools, a plug and wrench, any small tools you might need to adjust cables, tighten battery terminals, etc. Tighten levers or throttle or air boot clamps. If you have any unusual sizes like 11mm head/nuts or should have that. Remember, if a guy with the typical Japanese bike pulls over to help you, he'll have 12 and 14mm sizes. If you are actually taking a trip somewhere I'd supplement with tire repair stuff but for 100 miles? If you get a flat your day will be over anyway.
If you do a lot of rides like this, look at some of the compact and light weight tools designed for off-road. I'm kind of partial but Motion Pro has a bunch of useful and innovative tools.

Have fun,
Rick

Don't forget to pack a 10' roll of 14 g copper wire, a 10' roll of steel tie wire, a roll of electrical tape and a roll of two part epoxy putty. These items do not take a lot of space and will easily fit into a compact tool kit.

Awesome additions to the basics. Thanks. I remember reading about an accomplished MG rider using 2 part for a Motogiro repair.

I just went for a weekend ride on an old girl and although I did have some tools, the one thing I did do before I left was hook the trailer up to the truck in case I had to call the wife to come get me.
